>not looking at the specs and performance tests
>buying cards based on just the name
Don't you pls me, memelord.
>>332626649
The 8800 GTS was an inferior card. This isn't an opinion, it's a fact.
Nah
>>332626046
>greatest GPU ever?
riva tnt
9800 pro
I wan to build a new computer.
What is a good GPU?
I want to play DS3 at 60fps/1080p
I also want to play Oblivion with 240+/-
mods at a stable 40-60 fps with 1080p.
Can it be done /v/?

>700 series AMD (Or ATI) card
Nobody really fell for this, did they?

I forget was the GT better or worse than the GTSyou'd think it'd be worse but I seem to recall nvidia having some pretty bullshit naming scheme
>>332626707
>The 8800 GTS card
You don't even know there were two very different cards that were released under that name.
Why are you still posting? Go educate yourself, before you embarrass yourself even more.
>>332626046
Hated this card
8800Gtx = 9800gtx = gtx 260 via slight upgrades
560ti was pretty good,
Yes but can it max Crysis?
>>332626804
Fell for what?
>>332626918
My nigga.

kill yourself
>>332626845
>I seem to recall nvidia having some pretty bullshit naming scheme
it was marketing brilliance though. they renamed and rehashed g92 for like 5 generations before people finally went hey what the fuck is going on here
>>332626046
Why is the 8800 still so relevant? I remember it was the most powerful card, but that was 8 years ago. Does the 8800 have some powerful secret architecture or something?
>>332626918
Had two 560s which served me well, but fuck gigabyte's fan designs.
>>332626918
my previous cardupgraded to a 290, have mixed feelings about it, still better than memecard though
>>332626046
Maybe along With Riva TNT or Voodoo 2
Back when pcs used to have 2 gfx cards, one for 2d/3d and the other a dedicated 3d accelerator card The Riva and Voodoo cards where the point where people switched to just the one card that did both well
>>332627153
I'd still be using it if not for TW3.
>>332627168
yeah i had one of the fans die on me but the card still ran fine.
>>332626845
If a Nividia card ever had an X at the end of it, it was an overclocked GT card.
>>332627153
8800 was a huge a leap because it was a really great gpu on top of the jump to pci-e and it took games years to catch up to it.
>>332627302
But why are the 8800s so special tho? Was it just a meme?
>>332626880
I like how your post explains absolutely nothing. Well done.
>>332626880
They were both inferior, this is fact not opinion
>>332627542
It's because they held up so well and a lot of people had them.
>>332626725
>>332626046
ive owned both of these so i win right?
>>332626046
i had that card but GTS version
bretty gud and durable but still eventually burned out after ~6 years
thing ran hot though because i bought the stock cooler version, didnt know any better back then
>>332627679
You win the retard award for buying a 780.
Tfw had a geforce 8400gs for like five years and had to run everything at 640x480
At least resident evil ran at 30 fps, mt framework was such a good engine.
for everyone arguing about the gts version the 8800 gts 512 was the g92 refresh. it was on par with 8800gtx (in certain games) but it was crippled by a 256 bit bus to make it a cheaper price. nice card for its time.
>>332627802
What was wrong with it? Mine runs quite warm but that's a combination of my case being terrible and me sucking at cable management resulting in bad airflow.
>>332626906
250 actually. 260 was a whole new core
>>332626845
GTS came out as a 90nm chip, then the GT hit a year later on 65nm and was faster for less money, then they refreshed the GTS on 65nm with better specs a little over a month after that.
>>332626845
Depends, GT was always G92 while there was a G80 and G92 version of the GTS. It was kind of confusing.
My vote is for the 8800gt but there are fond memories of the 560/570/580 series last gen because they came during the re-emergence of the pc as a mainstream gaming platform.
>>332626046
That's not a 660ti though
