Who has the chance to play this game?

It was built up to be the successor of Clock Tower. This game is absolutely insane. It is a wild ride, but not... the way the developers intended.

The bad:
>graphics
Sometimes good, but mostly suck. Characters have the charming "dreamcast syndrome" of no moving mouths. Monica's hair is insane.

>glitches
I've had one crash, and the scissor man has gotten stuck in a wall, but I suspect these will be ironed out and nothing is game-breaking

>lack of saves
they are spread far apart, which means if you die in an encounter, you usually are sent back - not far enough to want to quit, but enough to be frustrated.

>Controls
Mouse only, which is a little annoying. Turning Monica around is cumbersome, when you have to escape quickly.
Some prompts it is unclear what to do (basically, just click on everything)

But the good is definitely entertaining. This game is not scary at all. Every attempt at horror is hilarious and goofy.

>Monica, the big-titted BIMBO BAMBINA (#breastphysics edition)
>420 noscopes the Scissorman with slo-mo headshots from conveniently placed vases or invisible cans of pepper spray
>finds strength from her favorite snack, PRETZELS
>is so fucking drunk that she shambles all the time and no she doesn't need any water, stop fucking asking
>takes no shit from buckets, or creepy dudebros, don't hit on me silly boys
>bad balance, trips everywhere

>first puzzle of the game
>meet cruise owner, "I love making my guests feel comfortable."
>"can you help me boil my prosthetic eye?"

>find a dead guy, take his phone
>He is John the electrician
>get a call from a co-worker who only wants to tell you how irreplaceable you are

>meet fat guy
>"Are you okay lady?"
>M: "are you dead?"
>"What?"
>guy immediately dies

The price might be a little high ($25) but this game is, as I said, a rollercoaster of bizarre lost-in-translation grasping at horror - an attempt by some Japanese guy to mimic American culture.
>>
The game immediately jumps into horror. Everything is normal and 7 minutes later a vending machine eats someone.
>>
Speaking of Clock Tower, is the series worth playing?

>Clock Tower: First Fear (PS1)
enhanced remake of the first (Super Famicom) game. Just been translated and probably the best of the series, very creepy and memorable

>Clock Tower 2 (PS1, released as Clock Tower)
It's shit, you can skip it

>Clock Tower: The Struggle Within (PS1)
It's really shit, really bad shit

>Clock Tower 3
Aka Sailor Alyssa vs. The Homosexual British Men Led By Winston Churchill While Fending Off the Unwarranted Romantic Advances of Ron Weasley

Completely different team, kinda shitty; it's now a pseudo-action game with hide-and-seek mechanics and some really dumb boss fights. The most playable of the series and maybe good for a laugh.
>>
>>332604056
This, also haunting ground which is very similar in style and gameplay as the original games, it's basically clock tower 4 but with a different name, great game alongside the first one.
>>

?

No shilling, honest. Just sharing how much fun I had playing a horror train wreck. I thought /v/, who loves bad games would be interested as I know several anons did the kickstarter. So far worth every penny!

>forgetting best Clock Tower
Also not the guy you're replying to, but how well does PS1 Clock Tower run?
I've been meaning to try those
>>
>>332604850
With ePSX, it runs as well as anything. PS1 emulation is pretty solid these days.
>>
>>332604718
Hard to viral when I spent the first part of my post detailing all the problems i have with the game. It definitely shows its origins as a mobile-only game (uber-simplified control-scheme) and its extremely low budget.

However this leads to a lot of unintentionally funny moments, at least.

>>332604850
Never played Haunting Ground unfortunately. The game is a little too pricey now. Rule of Rose is another similar game, though it is, imo, extremely overrated and mediocre.
>>
>>332604718
>I can't read
>>
Bump. Anyone get a chance to play this? I know there was a thread yesterday after the backer keys went out.
>>
>>332607018
I backed it actually, been too busy to play it yet (I say while posting on /v/). I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
>>
>>332607357
I did too, and I think going all the way to get the soundtrack was probably not worth it (no track has really jumped out at me, but this is a horror game). The game only succeeded by the skin of its teeth though.

the DRM-free download is huge though, 4GB, which taxed my shitty internet connection and PC to the limits.
>>
Last bump. I am looking forward to whatever stupid/dumb plottwist they have to explain why some scissor man is killing everyone on a cruise-liner.

>cults
>you are the descendant of a dark god/wizard/cultist
>ship sailed into a portal of hell
>SCISSOR MAN IS YOUR FATHER
>>
>>332609728
Your character's "personality" is so flat and dry (aside from her obvious skepticism of buckets) that it would be funny to have her connected in any meaningful way. She literally start the game too drunk to party and BAM, serial killer is on the loose. I think she had a total of three lines with her friends before shit gets real.
>>
>>332604056
I'd say Clock Tower SNES is worth playing too. It can be beaten in like an hour or two.

yeah, it's easier to set up as it's just a simple SFC rom, too. One or the other I'd probably go with the PS1 game, but if you are curious (or a huge fan) the original is more than good.

The third game though, man. The PS1 games were bad, but at least they were horror. Clock Tower 3 is a legit cartoon, with Sailor Moon soldiers and goofy-as-shit badguys.

>how you want your scissor man senpai
>>
>>332611549
>Kinda tired
>keep eyeing the SNES rom I have
>decide to pop it in
>picture of a clock
>letters take forever to come up because they go one-by-one with the bells
>close emulator
I'm gonna try again since I'm in the mood for some spooks

In CT3 the 1st and 2nd killers were at least sorta scary.
Sledgehammer killer fucking caves in a 9 year olds head and then chases your shit down relentlessly.
Coroder is fucked because he maces the old man and kid with acid and then tosses them into barrels of that shit.
>>
>>332619179
If you enjoyed the Clock Towers from PS1, then this one can be quite enjoyable, despite taking place in a single area. So i don't see what's wrong in liking it.
>>
>>332619418
No on said it's "wrong" to like things, but when the strongest part of a game is its wacky cutscenes, than the game is shit.
What OP praised about this game can be watched entirely on youtube.
Why would i buy a game that has shit graphics and gameplay?

Game sucks ass, contol are terrible, it aint scary, who woulda thought making the scissorman come out only during a cutscene is a good idea? its removing the fear factor and the death scenes is trial and error. graphic and animation is PS2 tier especially Leonard part, hoho that guy truly piss me off, it aint worth your time, for fucks sake make a better control, evwen tank control is okay, not a goddamn mouse, story is shit and the voice over is laughable and bad, even re1 VA IS BETTER COMPARE TO THIS SHIT

overall its 5/10 at best

You fucked it up !

Why the fuck they didn't use beeping for dialogues without VA? Like AA, 999 and Yakuza did for example. It would be much better than having completely silent dialogues.
>>
I'm going to be honest here. I love the Clock Tower series, but this game, in its current state, is just flat out not good. I've run into a total of 3 game breaking bugs so far, 1 of which has been supposedly been patched out so I won't mention it.

One occurred when I went back to Chapter 1, and Monica completely stopped responding to anything and wouldn't move, yet when I clicked on the items section it worked fine. Another one was in Chapter 2 when I tried to call the guard to get him to move, it would keep calling a different number no matter who I clicked on.

Not to mention the checkpoint system with no ability to save the game yourself and the controls being bad despite being a simple point and click. There are a few other frustrations I have with it, but the ones I mentioned are the main issues. I would wait for some of the bugs to be ironed out or the game to go on sale. The only reason I'm still playing is because I'm a fan of the series and I'm interested in seeing what happens at the end.
>>
>>332625670
You can save using the cellphone chargers, and the chapter 2 bug is probably just a hard puzzle. A lot of people think they got stuck with a bug but it turns out they haven't beat a particular puzzle.

Gameplay is pretty bad though, that camera doesn't work with point and click.
>>
>>332604056
>Clock Tower (PS1): It's shit, you can skip it
FUCK YOU. No, you're a fucking idiot. PS1 Clock Tower, while it has a LOT of flaws, has fucking godlike atmosphere and tension. The sound design, in terms of music and effects that make you shit your pants, are top notch.

It is absolutely worth playing PS1 Clock Tower, nobody listen to this retard

Rule of Rose has pretty amazing atmosphere and music. The gameplay is trash and frankly so is the story which is a convoluted mess
>>
>>332605869
My problem with these sort of games is that the premise itself doesn't sound scary nor do the moments I've seen on yt. Same with Fatal Frame series which at least has some interesting folklore elements... scratch that, it has the blandest of the bland Japanese folklore elements.

Does the first Clock Tower at least have some interesting puzzles?
