It bothered me they included a heckling system but sometimes he'd just give you the finger over certain items they clearly didn't want you to have an abundance of too early.
So it's less actual bargaining and more that some items really just are a lower price the game presents at a higher one until you guess.
So it's a guessing game, there is no economics involved.
Why not make an actual but simple system that helps you figure out the value of certain items at certain points so there's a little more to it without being bloated? You know something like during the day this item grows so it's cheaper, but at night it doesn't so he charges more for it.
Just whatever doesn't make me feel like I'm wasting time negotiating with a bipolar asshole.

It would've been interesting if buying a bunch of an item, or just buying a lot from the shop, would encourage him to lower the prices more. Instead, everything just had a set price that was below the listed price.
The game just took forever with every single item you picked up getting a fanfare, so I'm not going to be replaying it regardless.

It honestly could have its odd charm at times since it felt like I was watching something along the lines of the Legend of Zelda cartoon that almost seemed self aware, but sometimes the NPCs got too chatty, and scenes or dialogue would get reused and instead of being so bad it's good it seemed like they honestly thought it was good and people would want to keep hearing Tricky, that stone asshole and whoever else gab on every time you had the misfortune of having to interact with them.
Every time Pepper and Peppy called I had a sigh of relief.

So weird how the music and sound effects in this game knew when to kick in and when to go quiet, but then you have the voice work.
I know the game changed direction early on but I get the feeling two different teams worked on this throughout, one trying to make a very captivating adventure experience and the other determined to fuck the chances of that over as thoroughly as possible.
