This is why I stopped playing online outside of duoing with my MH buddy. That and playing with randoms just feels empty. None of the satisfaction of soloing, none of the fun of people you know. We've been playing 3U again recently while waiting for Cross to come out but school keeps us pretty busy. I had forgotten how few quests 3U feels like it has relative to 4U, but the variety still feels better, it's funny. Only thing is weapon selection certainly feels a lot smaller than I remember, as far as craftable stuff for a particular type goes.

At least getting drops from Alatreon is difficult because he is a tough fight unlike Tri where it was because poorly designed crafting paths and piss-poor drop rates except on the event version.
3U Alatreon is much meaner than Tri, the flight phase is viscous since they removed the weakness it had to flash when enraged and the fact that breaking both horns doesn't lock it to ground phase anymore

It's pretty viable if you know what you're doing. Warflare Demolisher worked wonders for me in 3U, and Spectral Demolisher + Seregios Bow were both good with proper armor sets.
The bow used to be my favorite class for unwinding, until I picked up HBG with Furia Sedition. Nothing beats shooting monsters out of the sky with normal-2 shots.

Because in 3U I used to be shield block attacks and agro the monster off of gunners. Now agro bounces around so it's no longer a strategy.
Guarding is plenty effective if you time your blocks and make sure when your attack gets in you do as much damage as you can. If you want to play shield wall, guzzle dash juice. That's it, combined with guard and guard up you can withstand pretty much everything. And if you blow though all your dash pots before the thing is dead, you're doing something wrong.

Personally I can't use Adrenaline worth crap on my own in any situation.
I tend to start thinking far too much about what move the monster is doing, when to dodge, when to run, and quite rapidly just take the hit and die before doing anything useful.

Limiters are more a gun by gun thing.
Having something like a Para siege mode shot can be a huge boon when hunting in a group since you can pump out that crap with a simple roll into siege shots.
But if your goal is damage then removing it is the way to go.
As for simple advice about gunning, I'd make it a habit to always try and think one step ahead of the monster, especially if using an HBG.
If you're already up and getting out of the way before an attack comes your way you're also closer to being able to follow up with a quick shot.

Some of them are extremely frustrating and heavily reliant on RNG. I did it myself and it was a huge pain in the ass. Even the Yian Kut Ku took a while because you have to follow a very strict pattern to barely get below 5 minutes. When I played with a friend who just picked up the series on that day we beat my record by like a minute.

Hammer is also good because blunt attacks deal exhaust damage too, so you get some free hits when the monster is tired

MHX's weapon upgrade system is much more like a cohesive tree, less like the individual branches that it's been up till now. You can take your starter sword and level it up once or twice, which will give you access to a Rare 2 conversion upgrade, which will change the weapon completely. Or level it up five times, and get a Rare 3 or 4 conversion. Continue from there in the same fashion.

X's upgrade system works on levels
You spend parts to level a weapon up, and at certain levels you can branch it off to a new level 1 path of a higher tier weapon, or keep leveling the weapon until it reaches an endgame viable standard
For instance, let's say an iron sword can branch off to the ravager blade at level 3, or can be raised to a maximum level of 8
The level 8 iron sword has 230 raw and green sharpness, while the level 6 ravager blade has 210 raw and blue sharpness
This system even applies to rusted/worn weapons, which have colossal raw when maxed out but keep their garbage sharpness and affinity

Oh and in case you were wondering every deviant monster has ten quests that go up in difficulty with each level, with a big jump around 5 or 6 and occasionally some silly bullshit like respawning bulldromes in the tower
Each level of quest gives 2 tickets of the matching level that need to be used for making/upgrading their equipment, so all weapons require at least ten hunts
The armor is even worse since they all have no slots and don't even have half of their skills until significantly upgraded, and each piece has to be upgraded separately

Longsword can easily trip over other users with its wide range spirit slashes. Lance users are easily the most affected because they don't have super armor on their attacks. Anyone with super armor attacks like GS should be fine, SnS/DB users might have to stay clear.
SA is also notorious for its launching upswing. Today I saw a /v/irgin knock two people into Rusted Kushala's tornado at once with one. GS also has a upswing which is rarely seen.
GL shelling/wyvern fire also knocks players around.
Lance charges are like a Rhenoplos on crack.
DB and IG users simply just need to stay away from other people.
GS, HH, and Hammer users might have a conflict of interest as they all like to go for the head. Same with CB users who can KO monsters with impact phials if they're in axe mode.

GL gets the Heat mechanic which makes it really awkward to play
DB can now demon spin from idle in demon mode
CB got a bunch of nerfs
IG has lower motion values and different kinsect paths

In mhx if you don't do lots of village before getting online you get absolutely fucking DESTROYED because armor and weapon progression takes shitloads of time and resources, meaning that you either do chores and slowly hunt stronger and stronger monsters or straight up lose 40 or so HP every hit and hit with the strenght of a nail clipper.
If things remain unchanged, generations online will be 10x more frustrating than 4U. Especially at HR2 when shitters will try their luck with the blizzard lagombi or the uber daymo and wonder why they die in 1 hit or can't dodge the new attacks.
