I don't get this. How many of you honestly have 4K TV? What's the percentage of US/1st country household who had 4K TV? According to pic related, it's literally 1% of new TV shipment in 2017. 4K is roughly 4 times as demanding as FHD and that means the console won't be able to achieve meaningful framerate when rendering 4K content. It basically means it could only upscale but FHD to 4K will look awful, so I doubt anyone would even want that.
I also doubt the CPU would be strong enough to handle the high frame rates VR needs without inducing major latency.
As such there's only 4K movie playback support left but there's no market for a 400-500$ expensive BluRay player when cheaper ones exist.

There are actually rumors of multiple PS4.5 exclusives.
It was also the case with the New 3Ds, literally the only other time in the history of gaming when mid-gen upgrade was atempted, and it was just a wet fart, just like PS4.5 will be. In the end it will be bought by a bunch of hipsters who want "all da pixulz!" Sony will slowly support PS4 less and less, and then people will just stop caring about PS4.5 and it'll be too late to go back to PS4.
The sad part is is PS3 fucked up launch horribly, and took it almost five years to get back on the horse. PS4 on the other hand is exact opposite, had one of the best console launches of all times and the best sony console launch of all times so they figured "Hey, lets fuck over early adopters and steer this horse into some quicksand."
I'm still keeping an eye on the situation, this is my opinion but I don't want to jump the gun, as an early adopter and someone that pre-ordered the VR set, I want to see how this plays out. If my suspicions are correct, and its essentially just PS4 slim with some extra CPU/GPU power added for the sake of supporting 4k media (Streaming, full video playback and so on) then all's good. If its what rumors are trying to paint it as, and there are going to be games which essentially perform differently on the two versions of the console, PSVR pre-order canceled, I've built a nice PC a couple years back with 16 gigs of ram, i7 3770k, 2TB HD for games, an SSD for my OS and even a capture card, haven't been using it lately because my mobo started acting up, I'll just boot it back up and swap the mobo keep gaming there. There's couple exclusives I'll miss out on but its not the end of the world.
