Have video game worlds gotten progressively more boring and bland throughout the years?

Suddenly I want to play text adventures.

Onenis a niche game and the other is a AAA designed to cater to the masses.

Most but not all. Elder Scrolls for example is uninspired garbage now but the Witcher has done some good stuff. Obviously nothing has matched the inspired worlds of some old text adventures because they were crazy stuff the type of which you used to see in fantasy-based fiction novels like people don't make anymore.

Steins Gate.

No, they've just gotten more representative. I remember being incredibly let down in Skyrim as I played. I tried to go for a more immersive playthrough, and so read all of the city guides before I would actually visit the city. The guides always painted a beautiful, illustrious vision of the city that the game could never possibly match, and so it was a massive bummer when I finally arrived.

>text adventures

Fuck off, they barely count as video games

Bethesda isn't modern videogames, Try hitman absolution for the crowd.

Or a 26 year old. Text adventures haven't been a thing in a very, very long time.

Fuck off with your meme text adventure games. Have you ever played Witcher 3?
>>
>>332537117
Anyone older than 21 should have at least played some as a kid unless they were retards immersed in nintendo fanboyism until the age of 15 and never touched a computer.
>>
>>332537447
Wow its like those kids wanted to fun games or something and not read walls of text
>>
>>332535093
No, you just got old, bitter, cynical and started vising /v/ more and more for your only venue for gaming discussions.

Incorrect. It's now called Interactive Fiction, and a yearly award is given out. There have been many fun and creative examples. The ifcomp website has archives of it all. Have fun kids.

Holy fuck this is a stupid comparison. One is a text adventure. Of course it's going to have all those details explained. It has to paint a picture for you since otherwise it's a static image.
>>
>>332537447

Really? 21? Name a great text adventure game released in the year 2002.

Yeah dude, like reading books is pretty boring too, amiright?
>>
>>332538049

That's also a good point. 4chan seems to be stuck in a time warp these days.
>>
>>332537680
Any where you conquer fantasy worlds?
or just conquer in general
>>
>>332537886
You don't play games that were released that year. You play older games because as a kid in the 90s you didn't have access to a library of 500 steam games in your backlog. If you didn't grow up in the 2000s and if you didn't spend 95% of your time playing video games on your nintendo 64 you'd understand.

Yes
>>
>>332538142
No. Reading is great. But I play video games to play video games. Not read a book
>>
>>332538318
I doubt it, they're artsy as fuck. Lots of introspective stories about people exploring symbolic locales and shit.

I liked Arcane Intern (Unpaid) though.
>>
>>332538352

how the fuck is a 7 year old kid in 2002 going to play a text adventure game from the early 90's WITHOUT steam?

I'm 30, by the way.
>>
>>332538352
Not the guy you are responding to but,
I'm born in 93 and my grandfather taught me how to pirate when I was like 8 or something. I don't recall ever deciding to get my hands on a text adventure.
>>
>>332538661
Not him but I played the hell out of text adventures as a kid. There's something called google that helps you find them, and there's this thing called communication that helps you learn about them too.
>>
>>332535093

While game world still have a lot of room for improvement, the text on the left is plain boring and retarded. It just screams "establishing shot" from any hollywood adventure movie. What would have made it kinda special is if it was made into a real game, but showing just a part of text adventure and telling someone that it has any value on it's own is not very smart of you op.
