Is the Beat'em Up Genre dead?
>>

All videogames are dead compared to mobileshit.
>>
The beat em up genre in it's "prime" was always bloated with shit. Even the big name games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage were just a mess made to eat your quarters.

For good reason.
>>
the genre is already pushed to its limits
>>
I hated how these games never gave you options to defend yourself
>>
Dragon's Crown is announced, I get excited, play it, it's a fucking Monster Hunter 2D, uninstall.

No. It just evolved
>>
Naw, we still got Bare Backstreets.
>>

This. Yakuza is so great because there are other things to do than beat up dudes
>>
>>332498481
Hyrule Warriors Legends JUST came out. Still going strong.
>>
>>332498481
No anon. Vanalliaware still makes great ones like Dragon Crown. They also remade their Odin Sphere for ps4 to be released later this year.
>>
>>332498481
It turned into 3D action, like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, etc.
>>
>>332498481
No, it's moved on to the VR space

No, the musou games are a continuation and evolution of the same gameplay concepts. Funny how streets of rage is a classic while DW games are derided as "lol just mash buttons". Gamers really are over.
>>
play streets of fury ex

Only musou that's actually a beat em up is Ken's Rage 1.

Streets of Rage never had an arcade version.
>>
Yes, thx to the ''level up your power, health, etc''
I can udnertand if your character learn new moves, but otherwise the game could be very broken, cuz you can just boost your shit.
>>
Foul Play needs to be played if you enjoy beat 'em ups.
>>
>>332507183
RPG mechanics are AIDS.
>>
>>332498481
two routes:
1 it devolved into mobile crap
2 it evolved into hotline Miami-esche titles
>>
>>332508056
Persistent RPG mechanics are. Short games with ability and stat distribution options that reset on game over are great - mess around with character builds, incentivize replays, no power bloat.

>Streets of Rage Arcade Version

Holy shit there are lots of new-millenials here that weren't even alive when Bare Knuckle was released
>>
Dragon's Crown was top chedder.
