When I played with people in 3soe, and they would do something really smart and it was by accident, and proceeded to play like a neophyte there after, I felt just like that image.
Firefall. I played from their friends and family alpha into the first closed beta test up until about a year and a half ago. They had it. They had a deep, meaningful crafting system with the chance to turn it into "you can't be amazing at everything, so everybody has to work together". They had everything in place, and they scrap it like 3 fucking times because their chinese overlords say they're not making any money
It was poised to be a grand game, marked down as a success, but they needed to appeal to a larger target group, so everything was taken down a few notches.
Then again.

I'm still sad.

I was actually looking forward to Black Desert. Really felt like getting back in the MMO saddle once again. Then before it comes out I hear the dreaded news, but just wont believe it. Then it came out and I hear what they did to the game, and the cash shop etc. Thats when I knew MMOs were finally over, at least for me. Wish it was a liberating feeling, but I just feel empty and sad. Single player games are all well and good but they dont fill that particular void.
Monster Hunter 4U made me feel this way for the MH series.
DoA5 made me feel this way for the DoA series.
Pokemon Diamond made me feel this way for the Pokemon series.
Every Tales game past Tales of Symphonia made me feel this way for the Tales series.
Phantasy Star Online 2 made me feel this way for the Phantasy Star series.
Dota 2 made me feel this way for the Half-Life series.
Some games are just really bad and dumb and only serve to make you lose faith in future works from their copyright holders.

Everything, every game today is a letdown. Broken games, Barely no content games, DLC and Micro-transaction filled games, rehashes, remakes, Games that ruin the franchise, Casualized games, games change the fundamentals of the series, and sometimes not even finished games.
Hell, it's not even just games. It's everything. Women being corrupted by feminism, the upcoming 3rd world war, Muslims and overly PC politicians ruining countries. the games aren't doing anything new and they aren't doing anything new with MHX either besides give more combat options which is somehow gets even further away from making fun progress in the series which would be allowing players to adequately manage multiple weapon types to keep the game fun and interesting instead of allowing retards to think mashing 4 different attacks with a single weapon type makes them savant videogame masters of skill. Oh now you can switch between other styles of play for a weapon type so now you have a replaced set of 4 different attacks to mash while pretending you don't have crippling autism.
Or how about how there are hundreds of armor pieces in these games, all with unique and cool designs, yet only 5% of them are actually worthwhile in terms of skills or defense so everyone ends up looking practically identical which is a sin when there's so much visual flair and options available. They should have implemented some kind of Terraria-esque aesthetic armor situation by now where you can choose which armor appears on your character which could be different from the skills and defense of the armor you're 'actually' wearing under it.
Like end-game, your choices are between only like 10 armor sets that actually have useful skills and defense, some of which are guaranteed to not actually look cool per opinion of the player - or looking like a visually offensive mongoloid with a mixed mismatched armor 'set' to get optimum skills.
MGSV, definitely. It was the final nail on my vidya-hype coffin.

I love verticatelly, but shit needs a lot of fixing since ledge break momentum way too fucking much and hunters always stay parallel to the xy plane (meaning they never stay parallel on terrain with inclination). Otherwise, magnificent, great addition, specially after that abortion of UW combat.

MGSV, which was great, on a technical level. But nowhere even close to the amount of hype its trailers made me feel.

All in all dark souls 2 wasn't a terrible game, but it definitely was a step down for the series. I am barely hyped for 3, which is sad compared to how hyped i was for 2.

This is probably my biggest complaint with the series at this point. I also don't like frenzy or apex, and how unfriendly the game has become to soloers. I legitimately did enjoy the level 140 hunts with a group though, I just wish there was a way to scale the game for solo and for groups. As it stands shit is either way too easy or way too hard solo (with a few exceptions) unless you're using meme weapons.

The game's glory days are long over. I used to play on a roleplay server a long time ago but it shutdown and the only thing left is roleplay servers where you just sit in the bar and be a lesbian or be a furfaggot so you can join the admin's meta circlejerk so you can do whatever you want and get anyone that fucks with you banned. The /vg/ server didn't fare much better. Used to be great but now it is literal 24/7 waifufaggotry to the point where the thread is shared with AA2 because they all share their characters on AA2 so everyone can fap to their favorite spess waifus.
