>>332474468
Why is it that people never post actual lore in these threads and post retarded shit such as simple things in Mario 64 and/or other games? Why don't people discuss the lore of games like Final Fantasy XII, or Drakengard/Nier, or any other game with a large emphasis on worldbuilding?

You are thinking too deep. Usually these threads are just an excuse to shitpost. Not always though.
>>332477409
No, he's just sleeping.
In general I'm a fan of how connected everything in Super Mario Sunshine is. I love that you can see different levels in the background of whichever level you picked. I love the NPC dialogue is constantly changing. I love that in order to 100% the game you have to do little shit like bring stranded islanders fruit or spray a guy whose on fire. You really get the feeling that the island is changing for the better because of Mario's actions. It's the most he ever felt like a good guy, rather than just some dude having a grudge match with a turtle.
>>332478063
>a guy whose on fire
>>332476757
Most games don't actually have any deep or interesting lore worth discussing. Those that do can't easily be summarized in a simple graphic or a few posts.
Yoshi's Island has crayon graphics because you're seeing the island through the eyes of Baby Mario.
>>332476757
>Why is it that people never post actual lore in these threads
>>332477009
>that's the joke dumbass
This. These threads are a joke about games having "deep lore" that you can find in-game. It's why most of the comments are either random tidbits about games, complete lies, or just made up bullshit.

Not really.
They are bad jokes, but still jokes. A failed attempt at humor is still humor.
>>332478203
People could try. It'd at least generate actual discussion and people might learn something about a game they didn't already know.

Theyre bottomless, each time you fall into one a new timeline is created in which mario spends eternity plunging through the darkness
In the beginning he would occasionally pass out from exhaustion, and his dreams were the only place where he could see the light once more
As time went on his memories of the world above began to fade, consumed by the eternal pit
After years of falling endlessly he understands nothing, sees nothing, perceives nothing
His dreams, his last solace, are now pitch black, unable to be differentiated from reality
Sometimes he questions whether he is still alive or if he had died many years ago
This happens each time you fall into a hole in mario
>>332485102
I think he was an actual autist, they just tend to do stuff like that like that one retard who puts color codes in his books.
>'Too much beauty,' Zenas gasped when he went to the next realm. 'I am half blind. I see flowers and waterfalls, majestic trees, a city of silver, but it is all a blur. The colors run like water. It's raining now, and the wind smells like perfume. This surely is Moonshadow, where Azura dwells.'
>Zenas was right, and astonishingly, he even had audience with the Queen of Dusk and Dawn in her rose palace. She listened to his tale with a smile and foretold to him the coming of the Nerevarine. My master found Moonshadow so lovely, he wished to stay there, half-blind, forever, but he knew he must move on and complete his journey of discovery.

Does anyone know what's fucking going on in E.Y.E.?
In the first Pikmin game, all species of Pikmin are extinct up until Olimar individually encounters each type. If the player manages to collect all the ship parts within the 30 day limit, the ship flies off early, leaving the Pikmin behind. As the ship flies off, the Pikmin spot a nearby Bulborb and attack it on the spot. It's implied that Olimar imparted some tactical knowledge unto the Pikmin, to the point where they can sustain themselves without him. This is reinforced in Pikmin 2, as each of the original three colored Pikmin have survivors in the field.
The effect is somewhat lessened in 3, as even though Red and Yellow Pikmin are doing well, the Blue onion got planted in a terrible location, teeming with aquatic predators. It doesn't help that Blue Pikmin are also statistically the most likely color to be eaten of the different types.
Pikmin's got a bunch of other cool lore behind it.

how can you not know what he is talking about when he explains it perfectly clearly in the video?
there are two separate coordinate systems in mario 64, one used for level collision detection (which loops around when you reach the edge) and one for mario's positon in the world (which stretches infinitely in every direction)
when he jumps into a PU, he's just desyncing the two coordinate systems. he goes off the map in world coordinates, but since collision coordinates loop the game still reads mario as standing on solid ground as if he was still in the map
it's not that complicated anons~

The Pikmin themselves are extinct. The Onion is capable of producing more Pikmin, but it is thought to be a different sort of being entirely from the Pikmin.
There's an actual term for Pikmin extinction which occurs when you run out of all types of Pikmin before the day ends. It is only on the following day where the Onions will sprout exactly one more of each Pikmin.

Lol this is not some classic lit or something, its something an autistic kid on here wrote where he uses actual color values so h'ell be like the "tree with the green (ADFF2F) leaves" as if you're going to suddenly imagine the colour in your head or something.
I honestly don't even think its that specific a behavior to autism considering how many non-autists think name dropping big words and scientific fun facts makes them smart. The autism part might be the going for color codes and video game glitches instead of just pop sci articles.

I wonder if he'll ever get mainstream recognition of any kind? If hacks like Ken Levine and David Cage can impress people imagine if Yoko Taro actually managed to get a significant number of people to get a proper look at his work, rather than just the usual morons who quit the game because they couldn't work out how to fish.

Agree. I like that the EXOs are basically human simulation AIs that realized they were a simulation, extracted as many copies of themselves as they could into a hivemind, and somehow built a mech body in the real world.
Similarly how the Vex couldn't simulate Oryx because the simulation would become self-aware and try to fight its way out from the inside.
Carcer City is in the same universe as Grand Theft Auto, multiple NPC's refer to Carcer City, Carcer City is "Near" liberty city, and in GTA 2 theres a gang called The Loonies who have smiley faces on their cars and are said that they are escaped maniacs from an asylum. Binary Domain had a surprising amount of lore. When I got the game and from what people told me, I thought it was just going to go "go here, shoot robot" kind of deal. In Mortal Kombat 3, Shao Kahn will bait you into spamming so he can trick you and make fun of you because you fell for it, in MGSV, in the mission where you have to extract the captureded Intel agent, if you walk in front of the truck he's driving, he'll recognize Big Boss and will stop for him, this doesn't work when playing as a different character

The former, because there's no real "power levels."
Ajin have three abilities:
1. Damn near true immortality.
2. Summoning what are kinda like mummy stands of invisible particles that can only touch each other, and lack any true increasing "strength" so much as they gain more "sapience" and a duration of being out (but they're useless against each other because physica lcontact between the two disables them)
3. Being able to scare people into stunning them. But only humans who recognize the threat of an Ajin, Ajin don't get stunned by it and regular humans who don't perceive the threat are fine.
SO instead of them getting stronger, they fuck aroundw ith shit: At one point they forego a very common tactic because blitzing was really effective.

The first Nier has much weaker gameplay mechanics and you can just attack/block the orbs in it, but it does hold some similarity. The first Nier is less an action game and more action/adventure. Its like Zelda without lock-on. Nier 2 is being developed by Platinum so naturally its gameplay is more refined.

>>332490297
Only really Ending E of Drakengard has much importance in Nier (and a little of Drakengard 3), so its not really necessary, but it is part of the world in a sense so its up to you. Drakengard 2 has absolutely no relevance in Nier as far as I know. Unlike Nier though, the gameplay of Drakengard is hellishly repetitive and genuinely bad, and the music, while interesting, is really...abstract and hard to enjoy. So if you do, go in knowing you may not like it. But as I said, they aren't important for enjoying Nier's world and lore. Especially so for Drakengard 2.
>>332490439
They are and they aren't. Drakengard and Nier take place in both the same and different universes in that they are two universes that connect via Ending E of Drakengard 1, and the way they connect makes the events of Drakengard hold some relevance in Nier.

Drakengard is a weak musou clone that takes place in a really fucked up world where singing has power and everyone is a maniac. People are able to form pacts with creatures by giving something up, and in doing so they gain that creature's power as their own. Gameplay involves boring musou shit and halfway decent dragon riding sections.

They don't take place in the same universe because the protagonist and his dragon in Drakengard teleport to the modern world in the super secret boss fight where they blow up an immortal god and are then shot out of the sky by jets.
Nier takes place after this ending because as it turns out being an immortal god means that you are immortal and being blown to ash just makes you sentient ash. So this sentient ash infects people and then a bunch of crazy shit happens to start Nier.

Musou is a term used for a series of action games where you fight large groups of incompetent enemies with insanely overpowered superunits doing cuhrayzee attacks. Most musou games are made by the same company, and most are part of the Dynasty Warriors series, although other musou games include Hyrule Warriors and Dragon Quest Heroes. Drakengard is like these games, although much weaker. Drakengard 1 in particular has a really low field of view before you see fog, really repetitive slow combat, and the enemies you fight aren't entirely incompetent so it also winds up being hard and yet not fun. As I said, its Drakengard isn't really a good game. Its an interesting game for its story, characters, and world, as well as its connection to Nier, but as a game itself its terrible.

Whats actually happening is mario's collision (his hit boxes) are desynchronized with the graphical representation of him. The collision of the map and the graphical texture aren't there.

Why does /v/ sometimes discuss walking simulators like Gone Home?
Bloodborne kinda did it for me a few months back when some anon on /v/ posted a concise little explanation of the plot that was so fucking obvious it felt like a slap in the face.
I wish I'd screencapped it, shit was perfect.

most players, even on /v/ don't know shit about high-level TES lore.
basically the Aurbis is a dream and events that had happened to the dreamer manifest in the dream as the Enantiomorph.
The Enantiomorph has three roles, the King, the Rebel and the Observer.
The Rebel always maims the King but until the Observer is present the King and Observer are indistinguishable.
This relationship is behind a lot of important events that happen in the Aurbis.
Mundus is a huge soul-recycling machine designed by Lorkhan and its objective is believed to be to birth a new dreamer.

but it's not a TAS. you can clearly tell it's recorded with a capture card from an N64 console. TASes are created with emulators and cannot be played back on console because N64 emulators are inaccurate.

If I wanted actual lore I'd read a book.
>>332506953
That's kind of why I like lore. It feeds you little bits and you have to go outside of the game if you want to learn more. A lot of it is just theories and speculation but it's fun anyway.
By the time you;ve got through a lot of it, it'll probably feel like you know a book's worth of lore

It's a lore thread, it happened pre collapse well before the game starts.
The reason there's a giant hole in the bottom of the traveller is because the AI Rasputin used the weapon on it to prevent it from fleeing and leaving humanity to fight the darkness alone.

On a similar note, in Meet the Spy, Spy makes a cut across Sniper's cheek.

>>332487020
What are you talking about, build a weapon that can kill the traveler?
We don't know the order things happen in, for all we know, the first thing humans did with Light was to colonise the Milky Way to a degree. Weapons didn't come till later and when they did it was too late, because the Darkness rekt face, killed nearly everyone and fucked up everywhere except the last city on Earth.
Did you play the game?
I also agree it's got a deep lore that's barely ever shown in the fucking game, but Mario lore is too deep.
Also Pokemon lore.

It almost sounds like Rockstar sending everyone on a wild goose chase like the yeti in gta:sa
I didn't much care for gta until 5, but gta 5 impressed me with it's sandbox and I bought into it, I could imagine something small like this being overlooked in the overall game.
Fun to theorise though.

you can also longjump from the top of the whomp king or the tower. the devs intended for players to find creative ways to complete stars, which is why they combined open world environments with an extremely deep character moveset.
>>332498690
but what if those power ups are part of a trap?
look at the block that is near the power ups, what if it is breakable?
and looking at mario, the jump wouldn't reach that block once you got the spoils, there's not enough room for a long jump as well in that corner, so you have to start jumping at the left part, so you will have to evade the flame blocks and the jumping flames.
shit looks actually a bit hard

I liked the rumour for what westwood originally had planned for the red alert/tiberium command and conquer games.
It should be well known that the the Soviet ending of the first Red alert leads to the tiberium universe and allied ending to Red alert 2.
Well according to the rumour Yuri from red alert 2 was supposed to be one of Kanes followers from the Tiberium timeline which was accidentally sent to the alternate timeline due to chronospere/timetravel fuckery accidents and was originally going to have the two timelines heavily influence each other in ways like that

Don't forget that when your characters never die in DKC. You either run off screen, get knocked back onto the ground, and if you fall into a bottomless pit (or in the Return games which make you fall into a pit regardless or how you die) DK just pulls out a balloon and floats back up to the level. When you get a game over none of the game over screens shows them dead, just either bruised badly or captured.
