In the past when Nintendo has done Microtransactions, they set a limiter system, where the maximum amount you could spend on Microtransactions was around thirty to 40 bucks. After which, you couldn't buy any more stuff.
So you could get an edge, but you couldn't pour money away like crazy.

Truth be told, there is nothing inherently wrong with mobile gaming.
The main issue, is that the freemium model is beating everything else, any other games that do not follow this model have very little exposure, and thus mobile gamers are pretty much forced into being cucked out of their money by freemium games, because their friends are playing the same thing.
Now, if we could find a way to balance monetization and the more traditional, and complex game structure, mobile gaming could really take off.
The big issue with freemium games however, is that they have low staying power, they mainly depend on word-of-mouth esque exposure (social media) and mainly ride the fad wave until the game dies out, in a year or two at most, with some rare exceptions.
Traditional games have much more staying power, and with digital distribution, could take advantage of this by staying on the market, and being sold for MUCH longer as it does not depend on the "fad wave" to the same extent.

Due to this, maybe if we took a whole game, and divided it into multiple parts, we could monetize it much more efficiently, while still keeping a more traditional game structure. In Pokemon GO, if they possibly divide these purchases in regions, where you could buy regions, which contain pokemon, for a low individual price, then maybe we would have a compromise between the freemium model, and the "complete" model.
