Die way too much to them on my melee build. Surviving that stab was fun though, with the special "other realm" effect or whatever
Magic is OP, though.
So what was your first build in this game, /v/?
Paladin with axes/maces and prayers for me, pretty fun an versatile. Full on heavy armor, of course.
Getting a "medium roll" with all the heavy gear was tough, but the shield comes pretty handy.

Quality fighter build. Dex for the polearms for slash/range/speed and str for greathammer for strike/stagger/force.
Also used the edgy spiky heavy armor that does damage when damaged mainly because it had good defense and weighed very little for heavy armor, so i could mid roll.
Shame the end boss was too easy. It was das1 gwyn all over again. No poise and strike weakness killed him in 5 hits

Yeah the Skill Tree made you ridiculously powerful after like level 30 or so, I one-shot so many bosses past that point while heavily struggling with 5-10 deaths to the earlier ones

You aren't really supposed to fight them. They're there to fuck you over if you mess up the platforming. They're like spikes in Mega Man.

The start can be a bit rough, but it can get out of hand pretty quickly once you get a Staff
When you get that enhancing ring that also enhances the imbalance it gets interesting where you have to actually play carefully
