2 DQ 1-3 although great games for their time, are extremely simplistic and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to play them today, when you can expend the time and money in playing even better JRPGs or games in general.

The job system could stand to be more robust and while the simple "kill the demon lord" story is fine most people probably want more out of it. Also, most people would probably hate how obtuse the game could be and that it forces you to actually explore the world without knowing exactly where to go next, but fuck those people, that's what makes the game unique.
Other than that I played the GBC remake a few months back and it still holds up.

Super Famicom port if you care about visuals and sound, though there's a bonus dungeon in the GBC one if you really need that in your life. There's an English patch floating around for the Super Famicom one.
Remakes that change the gameplay are cancer. If you're changing the gameplay, why not just make a new game? The only purpose is so a bunch of idiots can gain "nerd cred" by claiming they've played these old games.
The GBC, SNES and iOS/Android remakes are all great, they keep the same design and gameplay while simply updating the graphics, streamlining controls and enhancing sound.
