Made this thread earlier but had to leave for class and it 404'd. How do I get GTAV to not run like ass on my rig? I've tried everything and I still get PS3/X360 tier framerate. Someone in the last thread said to alt+tab from the game cause it helps performance but that just locks up my computer to the point where I have to restart it. I see people getting great performance with worse graphics cards than mine. What the fuck is wrong here?
It runs silky smooth on high settings on my laptop with a gtx 960m. Maybe you should just go back to console gaming bro.

I have very similar specs. MSAA set to 2x with FXAA On. Keep grass details on Very High and not on Ultra. Reflection MSAA on 2x or Off. Make sure the Advanced Graphical settings are off and test it out if this helped you. Also, disable V-Sync and keep the game on fullscreen, not windowed fullscreen.

Switch to manufacturer shadows(amd in your case), that should take the load off the rather weak CPU. Bumped my FPS to mid-50s in busy open areas running a very similar setup to yours(i5-3450/gtx970).

What settings do you have? GTA V runs fine on my system. It also runs pretty well on AMD hardware, it uses tech from both Nvidia and AMD and is one of the most unbiased games in recent memory

i'd recommend the 8350 for everything since it's the one i have, it's pretty cheap, and i've never find a game it couldn't handle perfectly.
there might be a cheaper one you can overclock that can do the same, but since the last AMD i had before the 8350 was a Phenom X4 955 i can't really say.

The Piledriver AMD CPUs may have been a good choice in the past, but it's been almost 4 years of their release already, and their price hasn't even fallen that much

I've got the same GPU but a better cpu and have no issues. Everything maxed gives me 60fps (vsync) at not even 50% gpu load, so the bottleneck is very likely your cpu.
