LoV isn't that bad, it's actually a really fun mini-game once you get into it.
The main problems are that you can't queue for it outside of the Gold Saucer, it's a pain in the ass to play with a controller, and you can only play against people on your server instead of against your entire datacenter.

It has not been that way since Coil, unless you're talking about the times when T5 weapons were i90 and some of the zenith relics outclassed them. BiS is BEST IN SLOT. As in, the BEST item IN a SLOT. You don't just stop counting raid weapons because you need to clear the raid to get them. It's not as if you stop playing when you get your weapon. You can clear the raid and all other content much more efficiently with those weapons. Because they're the best in slot.

But 1.0 wasn't anything like XI unless you're talking about how deserted both games were on launch date which the west never even got to see the monstrosity that was XI in JP (literally the only goal in the game was to grind and that's it). Beside those two similarities of not having any sort of end-game, the combat system to bugs were far different between the two. XI was riddled in bugs whereas XIV was riddled in copypaste maps, but not nearly as bugged beyond playable. What people tend to complain about XIV 1.0's launch date was the fact it was on the same mindset as if it was the year 2002 thinking that would be acceptable in this day and age; not to mention external influences to push it out before WoW Cataclysm hit the shelves.
Even if we're talking post-1.19 patch when Yoshit came onto the wagon it still didn't play anywhere nearly like XI besides lolauto-attack addition and the disappearance of stamina gauge/BR feature.

-WoW retail. It's WoD, not much more needs to be said. You might have fun grinding shit or making an alt, I dunno, that's up to you.
-FFXIV. It's a prettier, fancier WoW with worse control and very simple mechanics. It has nice music and new content more often however.

Chocobo racing got improved massively in the patch. Not in terms of gameplay, that's still laggy shit, but it's now way less expensive and time-consuming to get into. Price of feed, abilities and coverings all got huge cuts so you can actually build a decent choco without grinding mgp like an autist. Plus the challenges actually give you a reason to aim for a high-tier chocobo, since you'll end up with over 450k MGP for completing them all.
They did actually improve the races themselves a little too. Less obstacles and weaker NPCs so winning is less bullshit. The item shit can still go fuck itself tho.

The transition from fresh 60 to eso gear is going to be hard. You're going to want to start doing your daily centurio hunts for centurio seals. You can use those to buy i170. You can use that gear to farm the level 60 dungeons while you build up your esoterics and buy i200 gear. Once you're in full i200 you're good to do all the casual and midcore content the game has to offer.
Upgrade order is weapon > chest/leg > head/arm/boots > belt > accessories

Unless your a WAR, MNK and SCH, the Eso one is better too.
I wouldn't bother with Anima unless your going to see it through to the end. It's a lot easier to gear alt classes with eso alone.

Always seemed dumb that they even bothered with low level materia melding since you'll replace it almost immediately just by leveling, and on top of that just melding materia is a pain in the ass since you need:
- The materia itself which you either have to buy or convert from spiritbound gear, which can take hours
- The correct crafting class to meld the materia to the gear
- A catalyst gathered from the world, as if the previous two things weren't enough.
If you could just find materia anywhere or buy it from vendors and then stick it directly in empty slots without all the added bullshit, then I would understand putting materia in low-level gear. But it's like they went out of their way to make it as convoluted and tedious as possible.

MNK is still top DPS on paper. DRK still beats PLD in every category that matters except how wonky Living Dead can be. And funny enough MCH is actually preferred to BRD unless you're running a 2 caster comp for some reason.
Midas isn't a DPS check like Gordias was, so optimal party comp isn't a concern anymore.
