Highly recommend Darkwood though, still in EA but can easily be gotten 40+ hours for how it is now.

That game is LITERALLY lovecraft, it has a lovecraft character in it, and all of the enemies are lovecraftian horrors.
>>
>>332340349
>noosphere
Absolutely, in addition to in CoP where you are walking and from the sky a squad of DUTY soldiers comes out from a beam of light. Their PDA's read that they were stuck in a dimension of infinite mist for weeks.

Fuck, look at the bloodsuckers themselves, the controllers, and the local wildlife. The Zone in itself comes from the monolith an alien entity for sure, possible a great one.

>>332340668
Is it Lovecraftian in spooks though? I can take a basic RPGmaker game, and rename all the enemies to lovecraft shite, change the sprites and call it lovecraft. The story as well.

Also another great Lovecraft game: Don't Starve. The whole story through the ending is incredibly disturbing. Wish it got more love.

The monolith wasn't an alien though it was just an illusion by the C-consiousness. Still, it is never explained why when someone wishes something that it expands the zone 5km, in addition to the wisher themself suffering adverse affects ranging from becoming stone to being blinded.

He wasn't a fedora tipper really. If you are just referring to his blatant racism, in his time period the majority were out-right racist. His family had an outright history of insanity. I'd say all things considered, him being an introvert and hating niggers is getting off pretty light.

Also you guys would probably enjoy this, based on one of his short stories "From Beyond".

Bloodborne is my favorite Lovecraft inspired game just because I love Souls gameplay and the style is excellent, but in terms of actually sticking to the source material it is by far the worst Lovecraft game ever made. The whole point of Lovecraft is that humanity is insignificant and the elder beings are so unbelievably strong that no human can even look at them without going insane. In Bloodborne the player character completely shits on this concept, you just slaughter elder being after elder being and become the master of the universe at the end. It's totally not Lovecraftian at its roots, Call of Cthulhu is much better in that aspect since the player character ultimately loses just like every Lovecraft character is supposed to.

I dunno, I sort of give Bloodborne a pass in this regard when I consider how ambiguous pretty much every location, character and event in the game is in terms of how 'real' it is.
Being inspired by the Dream Cycle first and foremost, I was never really sure what was supposed to be a dream and in the end whether I was ever truly awake at all.
Sure, the Great Ones exist, because they're the kicker for the whole setting and plot, but the game did a pretty good job at making their origins and existence pretty alien in that you were never quite sure what was a God or not. I assumed that most of the godlike things that you meet (and kill) in the game are simply ascended humans or avatars of some greater power shrunk and weakened down to three-dimensional space.
By the end of the game, you've (maybe?) killed the Moon Presence (a nod at Nyarlathotep at the end of the Dream-Quest), but what have you really achieved? You yourself have 'ascended' and what state Yharnam and all of its inhabitants is in is still not truly defined.
>>
I'm playing that shadowrun hong kong game on the recommendation of a friend even though i thought the base game was whack and it has a badass lovecraftian plot that is super well written. Theres this super lovecraftian plot device where everyone in the neighborhood you're laying low in starts to have nightmares every night -- the SAME nightmare. A big part of the game is investigating this and asking people about their personal experience exploring the nightmare, its fucking awesome so far.

has anybody ITT ever read lovecraft before? he's such a bad writer, it's hilarious. his works are the literary equivalent to "so bad they're good" horror movies you always see youtube people making fun of.

it's actually comical to me that people have parsed his works as these grimdark tales.

I prefer his work in audiobook format, semi-acted.

>>
>>332355721
I know this is a memepost but it perfectly explains why bloodborne is actually a very good lovecraft game. even at the end of the game you don't really "win". the elder gods are never really explained. their motives remain a mystery. it's probably the most faithful representation of lovecraftian horror in the videogame medium.
>>
>>332356247

Actually this reminds me of a game I heard of I've been trying to remember.

The game is a text adventure, the story is that you are a college student who goes to his computer lab to work on a paper. While working on it a snow storm occurs and because you stay to long in the lab you can't leave and have to sleep there for the night. While there you eventally hear noises coming from the basement and decide to investigate.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

God Bethesda is a shit company. On the other hand imagine when Cthulhu lore becomes the zombies of entertainment. All it's gonna take is one very successful game before it blows up and we all hate it
>>
>>332357523
This, you can still enjoy his work without giving his beliefs any thought.

That said, this is easier with some of his stories than others, considering how many of them are practically based around miscegenation.
>>
>>332356279
No, he's actually right. The dev studio that makes the Sherlock Holmes games has a decent amount of the call of Cthulhu devs that left after Bethesda fucked their game over. Do your research before you make yourself look stupid

>>332337669
>STALKER (kind of a stretch, but the cults, wishmaker, and the mutations in themselves make it Lovecraftian)

The artifacts are items we cannot comprehend or understand, yet we are drawn to them and attempt to use them. Lovecraft deals a lot with "The horror of the incomprehensible". Imagine a nice setting, and twist it to become surreal, lurking with evil monsters and things from otherworlds. The Zone is perfect for this.

The awful squid-head with writhing feelers came nearly up to the bowsprit of the sturdy yacht, but Johansen drove on relentlessly. There was a bursting as of an exploding bladder, a slushy nastiness as of a cloven sunfish, a stench as of a thousand opened graves, and a sound that the chronicler would not put on paper. For an instant the ship was befouled by an acrid and blinding green cloud, and then there was only a venomous seething astern; where—God in heaven!—the scattered plasticity of that nameless sky-spawn was nebulously recombining in its hateful original form, whilst its distance widened every second as the Alert gained impetus from its mounting steam.
