Actually XIII and XIV are mostly to blame, not the XIII sequels. What happened with XIII was the devs of that game couldn't decide on how the game would play and what designs to use, so the Crystal Tools staff had lots of different designs and stuff that would get sent in only to get replaced by other things which might get replaced again. Originally they were planning to use Crystal Tools with other games too, one of them being Versus XIII so eventually they just said fuck it and used Crystal Tools only for XIII and it's sequels. In XIV's case they just got nearly everyone they could to work on ARR.

At the Uncovered Final Fantasy XV event in two days these are the things that will happen.
-Release date revealed to be September 30th, already confirmed to be quad audio.
-New full spec trailer focusing on both story and battle will be showcased, the trailer will also show pilotable airships.
-New demo will be showcased on stage, taking place with a kid Noctis, the demo will be made free to everyone after the event.
-A PS4 FFXV bundle will be announced and detailed.
-Epic Meal Time will have a FFXV special episode shown where they did a collaboration with SE to tie into the whole Ignis cooking bit, it will be a fish meal because Noctis loves fishing.
-A CG movie by SE's Visual Works Studio and Marza Animation Planet will be revealed, it serves as both a prologue and prequel to FFXV and will focus on Regis, the film is titled "Final Fantasy XV: The Kingsglaive", pic related was concept art for the film. The film will release in June three months prior to the game.
-The second reason for Regis's face change will be revealed to be that the original Regis face design will now serve as an aged older Noctis design.
-A FFXV mobile companion app will be revealed and it ties into the in-game smartphones that the characters have, it is related to mini-games.
-Finally a PC Steam release will be announced.

To me it all comes down to what type of game I'm playing. Shooters are best on PC. Third person action or platforming games are better on console. It's all about how they handle. In FFXV summons are called Astrals and Archaean's, Astral because the summon are related in some way to the stars.
Noctis and Luna both have these Astral powers which they obtained through near death experience's.
For Lucis magic itself there is two kinds, Crystal magic and the Phantom magic, Phantom magic is referred to also as Spectral powers and it's used only by the royal family, spectral comes from spectre which means ghost or phantom anyway.

That's why, when XIV launched and was a dud, the restructuring included kicking Wada to the curb as CEO. He was the one who wanted SE to focus on XIV in hopes of it being a cash cow, siphoning resources from VsXIII. XIII's problems mostly involved the old guard FF dev team rebelling against Toriyama's vision for the battle system and gameplay, but this couldn't have affected VsXIII's development because it was being worked on first by a small group headed by Nomura, and then the main KH dev team (while the secondary one worked on all those handheld spinoffs).
