When will this meme end?? Its about time.
>master all the games mechanics in the first hour

>never finish because the gameplay is so fucking terrible you physically can't bring yourself to finish the story.
>objects moving in any shape form or fashion is implemented as a mechanic

If I wanted a story, I'd go for a movie or a book.
Let games be games, or at least make the fucking gameplay good as well.

Then why just not pick a game to your liking?
Games like RPG's exist for a purpose, to deliver a story and a world, with the interactivity that a game can also offer.
Why is this a problem again?
>>332333023
>thread has shit opinions
>>332331527
>>332333156
So its ok for an RPG to have shit gameplay?
Get the fuck out of here
>>332333481
if the story is phenomenal? yeah
but I've yet to see one like that
usually they have at least acceptable gameplay and acceptable - great story
>>332333481
>>332333481
I didnt say that, having shit gameplay will have you quitting the game, but if the story and the rest is good enough, if you are interested why not keep ''playing''
To each their own, faggot.
And I do like SRPG and turn based combat too, for me thats not shit like scrubs that need their epic TPS gameplay elements and shit.
>>332333156
>with the interactivity that a game can also offer.
Name a single game that does this where it also doubles as an interesting game mechanic.
Outside of filling your inventory with hundreds of items you "might" needread: neverI can't think of a single one.

That's the point though, you're 'playing' it for the story. In which case, you're better off reading a book or a movie because games are a poor media form to convey a story in an artistic manner
Do you think the highest praised video games are vn's?

There are plenty that do this, in fact most good RPG's do.
Just by exploring the world, finding items, getting new abilities, leveling up etc, these are all things that you cant have in a movie or book.
By playing a game, the feeling of progress and reward is so very different and unlike other media, even in games like Final Fantasy, you can reflect your playstyle and even use the mechanics that the game gived you to do a lot of things and create different ways to battle.
( Materia in FFVII, Jobs in FFV etc etc)
In fact, most RPG do these things, Like I said if you dont like this, just turn away from these games and go play your fantastic new cod and Fallout 4 which was a masterpiece in its story department and thats why everyone shat on it right? Even with a somewhat decent gameplay, people still found reasons in narrative to criticize the game.
Yeah, these types of arguments only really go your way when you intend it to be so.
Fucking hell.
Fucking hell.

Why should I endure garbage gameplay when I could way more easily watch the story on youtube?

Holy fuck the things you faggots come up with.
Dude, do you also need me to hold your hand to cross the road?
If you dont like the gameplay why the fuck are you playing?
If you want the story go look at it on youtube, do whatever the fuck you want.
>>332331192
Gameplay tops all. Games, first and foremost, have to be fun. That doesn't necessarily just mean "fun" in the traditional sense, "fun" for games can be "engaging" or "satisfying" or "compelling" but it all comes under "fun".
Story is a distant second. Often third, many of the best games, typically classic games, left story as last priority.
Gameplay first, all else second.
>play video game
>it's actually an interactive entertainment experience
wtf

Le Heavy Rain :^)
>>332336003

Its not that difficult to wrap your tiny mind around it anon.
>game gives you important choices throughout the game affecting the ending
>only two endings with minor variations
>your choices didn't actually matter
>>332336434
Then.. just dont play it? Inform yourself on the game first?
And if after trying the game and niot enjoying it, most definitely move forward and play another game.
How hard is this to understand?
Also not everyone likes the same type of gameplay, some people like to play DnD types of games, some like to play FPS TPS, how are you going to evaluate a game if you dont understand such things?
For you it can be shitty, but going around shitposting about it without having actual valid points and knowledge will make you seem like an ass.
>>332336938
>inform yourself
No matter how much gameplay you look at you wont get a perfect idea of what the game feels like
>most definitely move forward and play another game.
Who said I didn't do that? If a game has mediocre gameplay, I return it. Happened with Witcher 3 and a bunch of other games
>For you it can be shitty, but going around shitposting about it without having actual valid points and knowledge will make you seem like an ass.
We're not discussing any particular game you fucking basketball, I'm talking in general.
>>332331192
>games don't need gameplay
>games
>gameplay
>>332337291
Alright, we seem to have misunderstood each other, what I wanted to say is that, you are insisting in something that doesnt need anymore talking.
I get it, if a game has shit gameplay, its not worth it, but why that attitude?
Stick with the games you like and let others enjoy what they want ffs, I guess this is /v/ so this mentality doesnt work but w.e, lets just end this discussion here.
>>332336938
So we let developers think that making a game that is barely playable but has a story it's an ok think to do? Maybe ask 20$ for it too?
>>332334886
>exploring the world
Open world games = copied and pasted assets everywhere with the bare amount of detail.
>finding items
Read: 95% Trash
>getting new abilities
A game that gives you abilities for exploring? What?
>leveling up
Putting points into a tree that lets you do the same shit for more damage wew lad
>the feeling of progress and reward
You aren't actually progressing though. Just because a bar tells you you are, doesn't mean you are. You mastered everything the game in the first hour. Everything else barely matters.
>In fact, most RPG do these things
Yeah, which is why every single RPG has absolutely garbage-tier gameplay. They focus on padding out the game with shit instead of gradually introducing mechanics you use to progress the game.
>>332334775
Why are you not replying? Do you agree with me?
>>332337918
>you are insisting in something that doesnt need anymore talking.
You're the one who started responding to my clear cut statement
>but why that attitude
Because if a game has bad gameplay, its a bad game. No exceptions.
>Stick with the games you like and let others enjoy what they want ffs
And where did I try to stop you from liking things that I dislike?
Go to sleep anon, its late.
>>332337668
>solely focused on gameplay
>solely
Only said that they dont need to be 100% gameplay, a game is much more than that.
You can have good gameplay and story and a bunch of other things too.
Some people seem to think that only good gameplay is necessary.
Atleast thats how they come off sometimes.
>>332329040
>game has a gore system that doesn't completely fail on every aspect

That's ridiculous.
Games above all should have good gameplay mechanics.
If not, go shove your story into some other media.
