Giant Bomb thread
Anyone else not really feeling like VR is good enough yet? How many years will it take for it to be cheap and have enough games worth a shit for VR to become good? Or is it just a fad and that time will never arrive?
>>
I only care about the porn applications.
>>
I've never been able to see it taking off. Nobody I know gives a shit. It isn't going to Steam Controller bomb, but it won't be big.
>>
when are they other headsets out? vive is soon, right?
>>
This game actually looks pretty decent, to be honest. This might be the first VR game where
1) VR makes sense and doesn't feel like a needless gimmick
2) It actually looks fun
What's the name again? Flatlands?
>>
Yeah, it seems pretty shit for current games. Maybe room scale and touch controllers will fix it, but I don't know.
This seems pretty good for waifu/porn shit though.
>>
Will I be able to cuddle with Mary in VR?

>>332326840
The robot lady's annoying as all fuck, though.
>>
technology has to be adopted for it to eventually become good

the internet was literally shit before it took off, it didnt just "launch" and start good

that said, i think VR should be an additional experience on top of existing (good) games, not a collection of mini-games designed specifically for it that will amuse you for 2 minutes
>>
I'm still of the opinion that this is not the future of video games but rather a niche thing that will be a fad akin to Wii at best.
I do admit this game does kind of look cool, though. Easily the best thing in this entire stream so far.

You can't walk and only look around, sure VR makes sense, couldn't do that with a mouse.
>>
>Have to teleport around instead of walk
This looks like it would be better if you could use the left stick to fucking walk around.
>>
>>332327126
Developers are having real trouble making you not go sick

It's weird if you are the head and walking with the controller but sitting in actual life
>>
i think right now VR is priced way too highly to become another Wii-like fad.

i mean everyone had a wii when it came out, that thing was like £180 over here.

>>
Without dildos these games look really lacking. Are they going to play any flying/driving simulators?
>>
>>332327279
Jeff (and Brad after not being on slanted ground) had no problems with it.
>>
VR really isn't good enough yet, at least not for me. I bought a Gear VR a couple of months ago, and while I know that isn't on the same level as an Oculus experience, many of the same problems are present with both devices. Low resolution, discomfort, and a severe lack of compelling content.

I tried a few games for Gear VR, then I pretty much just used it for the cinema app, and within about 2 weeks I'd stopped using it at all. Its been collecting dust ever since.

VR has potential, but, it ain't there yet. I don't even really feel like I got my $100 worth from the Gear VR, so I'm not even considering spending the $800 CAD or so that an Oculus costs.

>>332326910

This is what it would take to sell me on VR.
>>
>>332326668
If GB will be as negative with the vive too in becoming weeks VR is going to bomb.

I just hope oculus is shit instead of VR as a concept being falty.
>>
>>332327029
The problem is that, according to VR developers, games should be designed to be VR first, because you just can't pull off some of the shit you can in normal games in VR and porting is hard work. You need to change a lot of seemingly small things.
For example, taking control away from the player is a huge no-no. You need to use certain specific techniques if you want your character to move fast. Obviously it's not as easy to be a twitch shooter so don't expect to be able to play the first Doom on a hard difficulty with this.

There's plenty more stuff that I haven't mentioned or that I don't even know about. They had interesting panels about this. They also talked about this in that Giant Bomb E3 thing last year.
>>
>>332327126
The problem with moving around in VR is that your brain constantly checks your field of view for signs of you moving and compares that with the acceleration sensing cells in your inner ear. Mismatches cause various degrees of motion sickness.
>>
>>332327437
Need controllers for fun games, bruh.
>>
>>332327437
The Vive is supposed to be much better than the Rift. You can actually move around with it too.

At least Sony will force devs to use VR in proper games, like AC7.
>>
>>332327609

Honestly that's pretty much what I'm most interested in with all of this VR stuff, and I suspect a huge number of people feel the same way. I never tried any porn for my Gear VR because most of what's there just looks like really awkward videos that you need to use some work-arounds to view. It didn't really seem worth the effort. When people can make sfm-like VR porn experiences that let me feel like I'm banging vidya girls, I'll be sold.

Oculus needs to embrace this avenue. It's a gold mine.

Let me answer that for you;

It's disappointing.

Honestly, I blame all the media outlets that have been hyping VR so hard for years, depicting it as some transcendent experience that will change everything.

When I finally got to try it, my inintial reaction was 'wow, i can see the pixels'.

There are much more impressive gaming experiences to be had on your $1000 gaming pc that don't require another $800 in vr hardware.

>>
holy shit I can't believe people paid $600 to $800 (outside of US) for Oculus

I don't even care if it has 10°more FoV than PSVR, the headset itself is so shitty. When Jeff took it out after an hour and his whole face was red and sweaty and marked, they also mentioned too much frontal weight and neck pains (because the headset isn't balanced and instead puts more weight to the front and strains your neck) and using it with glasses seems like a nightmare, that beta looking glass-wearing nu-male had a hard time putting them on and then couldn't scratch his nose or adjust his glasses without removing the headset again.

Oculus isn't comfy at all and has to many usability problems, and from what people have said it's "between PSVR and Vive" in confiness, so I can only imagine the nightmare on Vive. any did anyone think elastic straps were a good idea ?

Pretty eye opening seeing oculus' games now and being played by non-developers. I kinda understand now why oculus has had so strict NDA as most of experiences and "games" in their lineup look straight out gearvr/mobile games ports.

Compared to Valve/htc letting anyone with a vive stream any game.

I'm really looking forward to GB's assessment on vive in near future
>>
>>332328552
Valve isn't a video game company.
>>
It's the wii all over again. Starts out a great idea, is something everyone wants and once you have it you realize it's nothing more than a gimmick and then you're bored with it.
>>
>>332328013
Yup, totally can't afford it.

Honestly I cancelled my preorder because I didn't think the game library was going to be worth it, the hardware support was likely going to be lacking especially for SLI/CF setups, and so I'd rather wait and see how VR evolves.

I'll either pick up an HMD at the beginning of next year, or wait for a new CK2. Whichever is announced first.

VR is literally the definition of a fad because it adds NOTHING and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except the novelty of viewing inside the game world. Sure, a bit of a bonus to immersion which is nice I guess. Too bad that literally no game NEEDS immersion to be played. Not a single game now or ever will need VR to be playable.

And it comes with about a hundred thousand downsides.

I've been a fan of GnT for 9 years and MuDo for 3 years. MuDo is better when it comes to quality & quantity. 200+ 90min subbed episodes. While GnT airs a ~30min episode each week and Matsumoto & Hamada dislike each other and are bored of the show. I thought for the longest time that no variety show could beat GnT, I was wrong.

Chances are, if you like one you will like the other though.

>Do you still use VGA since having HDMI/DVI would be a problem for you?
No, but people could. It was an argument for 1080p anyway. And DVI doesn't do 4k@60Hz I think. Older HDMI doesn't either, you need the newest. Same for DP I think.

But the important difference here is that there aren't games exclusive to 4K and 1080p.

VR has exclusives and most of them have shitty cumbersome designs precisely because of said VR controls.

So the fact that VR isn't necessary for the game is a pretty big deal.
