VR isn't the future.

Brad is still hopeful because he wasn't there when they played all fucking garbage for the last couple hours, he's just seen Tennis and jetpack game which seem alright

He still thinks Elite is fucking amazing in VR when in reality it was super fucking terrible

This will be an issue over the coming weeks and months, everyone will have adjusted their expectations and Brad will keep defending VR
>>
It's not the future in the sense that it will substitute normal gaming, no. But cool shit is gonna come out for it eventually.
>>
This game looks dope.

Of course it's not gonna replace regular gaming, only idiots would think that. That said I'm still excited for my OR coming soon. If I don't happen to like it I can just sell it and make back my money.

Yup, Patrick joining the site made them appoint a bunch of sad hugboxers as mods since most threads and comments were about how much people hated him. Like half of the prominent posters and wiki contributors were either banned or left.
Hell, Rorie's first job when he got rehired was to prune away all the Patrick hate in their YouTube comments

Honestly, the 600 bucks for the Occulus was bad enough. But 10 to 50 bucks for games like the ones shown so far is the real absurdity.

VR just seems like nu-male beta: the technology. I feel like I can't support it purely for political reasons since the only people I've ever seen talk about it are "progressive" leftist SJW types. Just look at Giant Bomb.

Like I wouldn't drive a car if everybody else who did so was a tumblr whale with an unnatural hair color.

>>
>>332316646
Vive has the room sensor thingies and is by all accounts the highest quality headset hence why it's so expensive, maybe that will save it from being shit but who knows

There need be games
>>
>>332316646
Is Vive the one where space matters?

With that one, not only do you turn your head around all the time to look around instead of just comfortably moving a mouse/stick, but you have to literally go around moving in your room as well.

Oh yeah, this truly is the future.

>>332317829
I've been saying this along with you for a fairly long time as well, but now that it's out and these are the games we're seeing, it's only even more obvious.

I've said it before, the only way VR becomes a cool thing that is the future of gaming and isn't just a neat little gimmick:

A) You don't need to move your head
B) You don't need to move around
C) You don't feel nauseated or dizzy despite the disconnect between the eyes and the controls

As long as VR asks you to go around being a dipshit twisting your neck around like a spastic retard, or it literally asks you to get up and move around your room, then this is just a gimmick and a fad.
>>
>>332317957
Developers are having problems with movement in first person and turn speed etc, people get headaches and the movement feels awkward if you don't actually move but your head floats around when you press the buttons
>>

The window you see doesn't reflect what he sees. This one is just an unwarped version of one of his eyes, the other ones either used a third camera or combined the eyes somehow. The reason he didn't see that ledge was because it was far away, that's it.

Animation looks good. But the graphics seems uninspired and the combat repetitive with little to no strategy
>>

this

its a nice headset but its not VR without room scale and motion controls such as vive uses

I feel like the games are shit because they are trying to shoehorn a traditional gaming experience into a completely new medium VR is

we will have to wait until vive and touch comes out for actually good VR games to begin appearing

No, they have been streaming for 5 hours.

Most of the games they played early on seemed like total garbage with some minimal exceptions, the last couple look more alright I guess
>>
Best thing so far was the dreamdeck which is was a bunch of tech demos. That was all 1st person and looked amazing. Nothing theyve played has come close

It's not VR without neural implants, moron. Vive is not VR

>>332319130
He's saying that you get present in the game from being able to turn your head and the view in the headset adjusting accordingly. Whether the character you control is stuck to that view point or not doesn't factor into it.

another game that has no need of VR
>>
>>332318937
The only appealing thing about VR is the screen in your eyes aspect (assuming it has proper resolution). Moving your head around to play video games is a bother and I guarantee you the majority of people will agree.

So. All of these games are just coming out without the need to use Occulus, right? Because there hasn't been a single one that required it in any way. In fact, in most of these, it seemed like controlling shit the natural way is much more cozier experience.
>>
>>332319356
That's a rather shitty point to make since there is not a single game that would be in need of VR.

Everyone hated having to flick their wrists and point with the wiimote. Everyone hated having to move around with the Kinect.

What, exactly, makes you think people are fine with moving their heads around instead of just moving the camera in the ways we already know?
>>
>>332319535
The Occulus is a new screen, there are no games that would require the Occulus.

It's not a new kind of video game, you play normal video games on a different screen and you could play all of those without the headset.

GiantBomb DOT com has been fucking awful recently, premium content had been so bad it's pretty laughable they're cracking down on the people who were getting it for free, which seemed to be a fair price for that horse shit.

Even the podcast quality has slipped recently, something I don't remember saying or thinking since Dan came on board. It's just boring, like, I've literally fallen asleep to it twice in a row now. Didn't even bother going back to it either, just didn't care. Safe PC positions+nothing going on on the site+nothing terribly interesting going on in gaming=snoozefest

It's supposed to be different in that it looks like you're someplace else, not like you're controlling the camera on a video game.
>>
>>332319953
oh shit nevermind i was watching the recording.
>>
>>332319868
Compatibility really. Notice how all games they're playing now have a smooth transition? For Elite you need to log in with the keyboard, and set it to HMD in the options. The FOV was weird as well, you were really close to the controls.
Once in game it worked decently though. Not sure what Drew said exactly.
>>
>>332319710
They played the Elite Dangerous thing, it wasn't very good.

The camera was kind of close, there were frame rate hitches and the log in process was rather bad, he had to take of the headset and type in some bullshit on the keyboard to make it launch after starting it from inside the headset.

>>332319831
They could benefit from it but you can play all those games without VR, with mouse and keyboard.
There is no game that NEEDS vr.

Also racing games seem to have trouble because of the resolution, you want to look far ahead on the track while racing and the lower resolution in the headset makes that difficult.

>What, exactly, makes you think people are fine with moving their heads around instead of just moving the camera in the ways we already know?

Because it doesn't work like that while having the screen strapped to your face you fucking idiot. If the movement of your head doesn't correspond with the movement of the screen you'll get motion sick. Why do you think one of the first things they do when converting an old game to a VR device is to remove all non interactive cutscenes?? Ding ding, that's right, to stop people from puking when they can't control the camera with their head.

>>
>>332320460
Not him but I don't suggest wasting your time watching streams of VR or even asking stupid questions in regards to it.

Go and try it, it's a waste of your time speculating.

Every single game is better in VR because rather than having a monitor to look at, your head is literally inside the video game and you can look around with it. That means first, third, rts, whatever games are all better and more immersive.

Graphics matter less and everything looks amazing because it's full 3D and you have a sense of scale and depth.
>>
>>332320271
Most people are not so fat that moving their head around takes actual effort.
>>
>>332320586
Exactly. No one wants to move their head around like retards and you need to in other to not be nauseated.
That's why VR will fail.
>>
>>332320467
That's my point, saying "this game doesn't need VR" is stupid because there is no game that needs VR.

Games don't need 1080p either, but it's still a good thing.

We should try and see if the game is good or not and if you would want to play it with the stupid gimmick helmet and not go "this game doesn't need VR" because no shit, there are no games that need VR.

>>
>>332320696
What games have you tried in VR? What are the ones that made you think this?

I tried with the Beastcast, just Alex and Austin take up about 65% of the talking time, which means it's unlistenable.
