Will there ever be another good LOTR game?
Also,LOTR Thread
Probably, eventually. Still no real Lotr RPG has been made for some reason. Might be cool.
Shadow of mordor was... mediocre. But it wasnt a lotr game

>Probably, eventually. Still no real Lotr RPG has been made for some reason. Might be cool.
What about LOTR: The Third Age?
It had problems because it ended up getting rushed, but it had some seriously cool shit in it.
>>332295093
I liked the nemesis system. Kept me entertained a while.
>>332295161
I'm talking real RPG, not shitty Final Fantasy remake. I am talking full party of adventurers, lots of dialogue, lots of traveling etc. Like Baldur's Gate kind of. The setting is pretty much made for a deep RPG but nothing has been made yet.
>>332294916
War in the North, while not a proper RPG, still gave me tons of fun. Felt like I was playing Dark Alliance again.
>>332295258
It was amusing I guess but still too simple.
Nothing fun about playing a game when you know what will happen afterwards anyways. How people can find a universe already predetermined what will happen in the future, fun, I'll never understand.
>>332295163
yeah that was what made the game special in some way.
>>332295428
>poopyface
is this a serious insult adults use now?
>>332295359
Lol? The game could simply be about something within the universe that doesn't completely pertain towards the original story?

Fuck id at least want to read the books for the first time again
What a world
List of great LOTR games
>Fellowship of the Ring (yes I'm serious, try it out)
>Two Towers
>Return of the King
>The Third Age
>Battle For Middle-Earth 1/2
>War In the North (yes, it's also awesome.)
Am I missing any?
>>332298769
The Fellowship of the Ring was absolutely god-tier and I cried in a few places. Both the Two Towers and Return of the King felt a little too fast paced for me, and I actually liked the movie versions more.
At the hill's foot Frodo found Aragorn, standing still and silent as a tree; but in his hand was a small golden bloom of elanor, and a light was in his eyes. He was wrapped in some fair memory: and as Frodo looked at him he knew that he beheld things as they once had been in this same place. For the grim years were removed from the face of Aragorn, and he seemed clothed in white, a young lord tall and fair; and he spoke words in the Elvish tongue to one whom Frodo could not see. "Arwen vanimelda, namĂĄri!" he said, and then he drew a breath, and returning out of his thought he looked at Frodo and smiled.
"Here is the heart of Elvendom on earth," he said, "and here my heart dwells ever, unless there be a light beyond the dark roads that we still must tread, you and I. Come with me!" And taking Frodo's hand in his, he left the hill of Cerin Amroth and came there never again as living man.

>>332300104
i really wanted to like it but i couldn't. i guess im not much on puzzle/platforming.
Am I the only one who enjoyed playing this?
>>332300856
No, I loved it and have beaten it three times.
>>332300856
how is the single player? a lot of people say it's shit and is only worth playing with friends.
This shit was too fun
I liked Shadow of Mordor.
Being an immortal spirit of vengeance was cash. But it was kind of too easy to slaughter normal orcs and certain combinations of the warlords/ranked orcs was bullshit. Looking at you Mr immune to ranged, immune to melee, immune to stealth niggers, with a big ass tower shield that can't be broken.
>>332300856
i would like to play it but for some fucking reason it runs at 5 frames, just like the darkness 2, some day these 2 games just stop working
>>332295093
If they wanted crazy magic stuff they could just place the game in the 1st age. But nooo, this faggots need to have Sauron and the Rings of Power
>>332296435
One day someone will make this in a game similar to Dark Souls + Baldur's Gate + TES.
Or not.
>tfw no first age game
>will never find Gondolin just before its fall after getting lost in the mountains
>will never ride into battle with a massive army at your back ending in a terrifying pyrrhic victory against the armies of Morgoth
>>332301001
It's not exactly the greatest game ever made and it's a bit repetitive and confusing at times but if you enjoy the setting it's definitely worth a play. The city hubs like Lothlorien are comfy and good to explore and have conversations with the characters as they will tell you stories.
Online coop play is always better than playing it alone.
>>332302297
so much this, the universo of lotr is huge, but developers always want to make the same shit over and over again.
>>332302395
You're now realizing you would have to stoop like Gandalf just to fit in this tiny fucking 4 foot high room.
Unless you're a midget or something.
>>332302985
It's because casuals know nothing about the Middle Earth setting and only know about the Third Age/War of the Ring so devs and their execs want to play it safe.
>tfw friend of mine actually prefers the Hobbit trilogy over LOTR movies
>>332294846
>Battle of middel earth had good working units that could merge and good building workarounds
>Battle of middel earth 2 had custom heros, alot of new units, races and diffrent ways you could play the races. they also upgraded the power tree

>>332298517
Hope for Alzheimer's, bud.
>>332295161
I remember playing that on the ps2, I know what you mean about rushed but it was really good. they experimented with a few things and it was interesting, but ultimately a bit too much like final fantasy
The Lego Hobbit game was pretty good for what it was
Though for some weird reason it doesn't cover the third movie and they canned the DLC that was going to.
>>332301238
It was.
I wanted to play it again not too long ago only to see that EA shut down the servers. Fucking faggots, the game isn't even that old.
The multiplayer was hilariously unbalanced, archers could literally oneshot everything.
>>332304147
It's a goddamn tragedy. So much potential.

>>332305624
I don't believe this much detail went into movie. Legolas' smile is just a coincidence.
>>332307093
i dont belive it too, but still it fits nicely
>>332307093
>I don't believe this much detail went into movie. Legolas' smile is just a coincidence.
What's neat is that this awesome little detail is never stated in the LOTR books nor in anything Tolkien published in his lifetime. The significance of this seemingly minor detail only came up years after Tolkien's death when his son published The Silmarillion.
>>332296435
Damn I love me a good well done fantasy landscape, why is this kind of shit not in more vidya games?
>>332298201

I doubt this is what woman would think about in the shower though.
>>332307093
I dunno. Christopher Lee and Magneto were both huge dicks about details like that while on the set.
>>332295163
For a first attempt, I thought the nemesis system was pretty clever for what it tried to do. Enemies learning from previous engagements, finding new ways to fight and defeat you.
I hope that one day, the system will be built into other games, where what you do and how you interact with the wold and those in it will have lasting, appreciable affects on the world and your role/choices in it.
Hoping for a good Battle for Middle Earth 3
Provided EA doesn't dumb down the mechanics

Wasn`t it that Tolkien`s nephew or something has the rights over the silmarillion and he keeps it from everyone? I thought that was why we don`t have anything from first age
I mean armies of balrogs, dragons, gods and all that would sell a lot, no one is that retarded to let that pass
Will you faggots stop talking about Fuck Tolkien: The Game?
This is a LotR thread.
>>332308920
Best part of the game is taking over the army. Ratbag is the tutorial on that. Follow his quest, get to the second map, and do main quests until you can convert orcs. Then it's fun.
>>332308995
Tolkien's son Christopher, who himself teaches at Oxford, holds the rights and he'll be damned if he lets one more piece of the legendarium ever become licensed.
>>332308864
I think the Silmarillion is one of the better books, especially if you've read his other works. And it does start off slow, but you need to get a good grasp on lineage, as it becomes more important later. Enjoy the ride, there is nothing like reading it the first time.If only Feanor wasn't such a fuckboi, things wouldn't have turned out so bad. He is the catalyst for everything.

You guys are thinking of Hobbit Jackson.
Jackon, Walsh and the others who wrote up the script for LotR and worked on the worldbuilding actually really cared about what they were making and knew their shit. It was a real passion project that Jackson couldn't believe he was funded to make.
He never wanted to direct The Hobbit but Del Toro dropped out and I guess the studio offered him a gorrilion dollars to half-arse it.

Fuck, this thread shows me how much I miss the Lord of the Rings games, I got almost all of them, even the Gameboy/Gameboy Advance games and Playstation 2 games, also that amazing The Hobbit game for PC and consoles. That were great times I'm telling you, really great times. My favorites are still BFME 1 and 2.

>>332310574
Hell yes I fucking did.
The game was buggy out the ass though, or at least on my grandparents PC it was. Had to constantly restart a few levels because shit literally wouldn't spawn, or the boss would get stuck behind a wall.
But fuck it was fun and made me love the hobbit as a kid.
>>332310361
Del Toro didn't dropped. Apparently he wanted to make changes regarding styles to fit his personal vision, which would depart from the estabilished Jackson style. The studio then pushed him out and brought Jackson back. And yeah, Jackson had no interest in directing this.

I think the main diffrence between LotR and other fantasy fiction is that LotR is very much written like a historical epic whilst other shit is not only derivative (of another work of fiction rather than real mythology) but it's written like regular fictional novels.
I'd seriously argue that LotR and the books related to the setting deserve their very own sub-genre; epic fantasy.

It's mythical folk tales. That was Tolkien's life pursuit, studying and writing those things. He did a lecture on Beowulf and single handedly changed the academic perspective on it from "just a story of a hero killing some monsters" to it's own place in fictional history.

Jackson might deserve some of the blame, but he was literally incapable of doing anything about that part. The Hobbit had virtually 0 pre-production whilst the LotR films had years.
There's a video from one of the Hobbit dvds (I think) that shows how fucked the whole production was. Conan Stevens jumped ship on GoT (he was the original Mountain) to play the son of Azog in the Hobbit, but they eventually turned to CGI simply because it was easier and quicker.
This is still the best LotR game I have ever played. And they are still making expansions for it regularly.
>>332322954
Because he was forbidden to match power with power since last time they did that a subcontinent sank.
Also he was scared of orcs.

Gandalf didn't really have the right to go fuck shit up. If I'm not entirely mistaken (and correct me if I am) he wasn't allowed to directly confront any other maiar. Durin's Bane (the balrog in Moria) completely overstepped his boundaries when he went to fuck with Gandalf and was summarily fucked up. Likewise, Saruman failed in his duty as a maiar by being a powerhungry twat and subsequently had his staff broken by Gandalf who was the new boss of the istari.
The Hobbit
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Silmarillion
The Children of HĂșrin

Get a part going of elfs and dwarfs, explore the newly birthed world, when you get strong and bold you can venture into the anguished lands of Ang'bad. Lay siege upon the dark lords fortress until you force out his legions.
Oh man that would be the game to splerg on.
An RPG set during a time where everything happens.
Enter a cave, discover cave beasts, giant monsters.
That feel when you get a quest to aid fingolfin in a fight against Morgoth. Watch himDie
Sheeeeit someone fund me a big Tolkien game pls

War of the ring is also pretty great

His little known King Arthur adaptation was really great too and would've probably been the best version of the legend had he finished it
>tfw you can no longer recall the Shire, nor the taste of food or water

Yeah that ending was so fucked. I thought it was ok up to that point. You're on the Fields and then for little to no context you fight the Eye. Also fuck the stun lock fights in that game.

I'm assuming it's Lan but holy shit is that image awful.

Was there ever a good LoTR game aside from the RTS? I don't remember the name, something like Armies of Middleearth

Is there any art of what people envisioned how the Barad-Dur looked, before the movies came out and completely codified the public's perception of it? I'm curious.

Joke's on you, anon. Got a great best friend.
>>332342887
Yeah, forgot it
The best part was how they made the player explore the map instead of staying the base. That was great. Also the WC3-like hero system

>>332343000
Yes.. I have seen it.

I really liked it, but it didn't feel like LOTR at all.
is there anything that /v/ agrees that Jackson's movies did RIGHT? Or even better than the source material?

Soundtrack and landscape views at the very least. Prove me wrong
I sometimes feel like playing this again but is a ton of content still locked behind subscriptions?

Soundtrack. I defy anyone ITT to unironically claim that the OST for the movies isn't one of the single best-composed soundtracks of all time
>>332343297
LOTR felt like a genuine journey. The growth of the characters was phenomenal. They nailed how Middle Earth gradually expanded as the quest continued and it captures the feels.
Felt like a labour of love and something genuinely crafted.
Since it's a LOTR thread, does anyone know how to remove the 30 fps cap in BFME 1? I tried to do it a few years ago and didn't find anything helpful.

That game would have been amazing if they just dropped the fucking ranger and just let your play as your own customizable orc and you rise up the ranks and get your own warband and eventually start a orc rebellion against sauron who then wrecks your shit at the end of the game.

That's probably because there are many good Lord of The Rings games.
Game of Thrones feels too edgy and "real" in some ways. Personally, I'm not a fan of anything that features sex and that level of violence all the time.

Been some good roguelikes and MUDs, m8
>>332344727
Well, elves and dwarves in fantasy are mostly used as positive characters with developed lore and characters, while orcs are just there to fill some rooms with loot holders, and have little to none backstory. Warcraft universe is good in this aspect

Was Melkor really wrong?

If she got the ring she would be unstoppable. What ever she wanted would be hers.
the people of lothlorien proclaimed her queen even though she totally wasnt.
I think the only way for Sauron to destroy lothlorien kingdom was if he had the ring as well.
She was able to fight Saurons spirit one on one and succeed while gandalf was utterly crushed.

They have that exchange at the start of the fight, whereupon the Witch King gets a little nervous before he slaps her shit royally anyways. Merry saves the day in the same fashion and its implied that he's also the "not a Man" who got shit done. It's less Hollywood.

It wont work that way because of the lore.
Sauron's voice dominates all evil creatures. Orcs are born from evil, melkor, saurons master. From birth their minds are enslaved.
Goblins on the other hand, maybe a goblin for substitution would be more realistic.

That sounds wrong on a really simple basis
Didn't Elrond explain if all Middle Earth would fall, even Bombadil would lose.
That means Galadriel wouldnt last against Sauron's full army

was it even possible for Fingolfin to kill Morgoth, or was it a futile task from the start?
>>332346596
Yeah, but it makes sense to react the way he did and turn into an asshole. The whole thing started when he began to think private thoughts and then tried to sing his own song right? Then Eru just tells him that it's irrelevant.
Melkor might have reacted like an angry child, but practically anyone would in that situation.
>>332346235
