Soul Calibur is my jam. Unfortunately I don't see another happening for a long time, probably skipping this console gen altogether along with Virtua Fighter. And Tekken 7 isn't coming to console until 2017, that's my bet.

There will be never be a new 3D fighting game series like Tekken or Virtua fighter because they are too hard to make. We will be stuck with 2.5D and 2D forever.

We really need more games like Tekken and DOA. I haven't played Tekken since 5 because by the time I started getting into fighters again, all I cared about was DOA, but DOA is my stuff.
I've never been all that into 2D fighters, honestly. I never owned one personally, so it was hard to get into one by going over a friend's house to get bodied for 3 hours. It just wasn't a fun way to play. When I finally did start trying to buy my own, I found myself really struggling with the mechanics and button inputs. They're just too different from 3D fighters. I plan on getting into SFV when I finally grab a PS4, but I'm probably always gonna prefer 3D fighters. They just feel better to me.
Pokken just came out and Tekken 7 will be out relatively soon, so nothing.

It's one of those genres that made the jump to 3D for no reason, other than "3D is the new thing so every genre has to do it"
As of late you've seen fighting games go back to 2d, with street fighter 4, and Mortal kombat 9, And the gameplay is far better.

Mario went to back to 2D, rayman went back to it's origins, even fucking assassins Creed did it.
