Winger did the soundtrack for Daytona USA 2, but for the soundtrack release they had Takenobu 'ROLLING STAAAART' Mitsuyoshi cover the entire soundtrack

and then on disc 2 they set it out like a day at the races, with commentary from Tom West of the Sega Sports Channel and race noises and everything

Are there any recent RPG racing games with deep car customisation like early NFS titles, The Crew, and late Gran Turismo titles, except not old AF, by Ubishit, or console exclusive?

>>

God I remember that. Really fucking stupid and it did nothing for F1 in America.
>>
>>332280470
It did, but it was only performance packages (and individual part bias in non-career modes). Your Mercedes 230K still wasn't going to hold up in a race against CLK-GTRs.
>>

Mainly, yeah.

The tuning car genre is dying and it's sad. I need that rice.

Glad you started this thread, OP

No one buy Trackmania Turbo; the multiplayer is hosted Ubisoft servers.
It's also a console port of a pc franchise

Trackmania2: Valley is strictly rally, but it's on the arcade side of racing games
>>
Was this the F1 race where the tires kept blowing out on a certain turn?
>>
>>332280737
Michelin fucked up, big style, and all the cars with their tyres had to retire before the race proper even started.
>>
>>332280734
Valley looks gorgeous, and reminds me of the coast setting in Trackmania United Forever. I've been really tempted by it. Multiplayer on anything past TMNF is fucked though
>>
>>332280717
Because >>332280104 sounds like he wants something inline with the Underground (and MW+Carbon) games where your starter car could be upgraded more and more and more until you beat the whole game with a Golf/Miata/Corolla.
>>
>>332280737
it was a marketing move, to adapt the F1 grid to the grid sizes typical for simcade racing games
>>
I like F1 in a technical sense, it's like watching astronauts whizzing around in hyper-tuned machines

it's just a shame that a) the sport, like any other, is rotten from the ground up, and b) f1 doesn't seem to have any direction besides 'makes the organisers vast sums of money'

His family built a special hospital room at their house with some advance medical equipment to keep him alive but his is essentially pretty brain dead.

That's manufacturers making buck off people. The games themselves are hardly overshadowing anything.

Ask someone about racing games and they can name the console simcades- Gran Turismo and Forza, no problem. Probably arcadey Need for Speed and Burnout, too. Now find someone who's really into rFactor, or Assetto Corsa, or Race '07, or so on or so forth, and you'll be much harder pressed to find them.
>>
Do people still play Blur online?

There are some tournaments but they are always game specific and they don't happen very often. There are ofcourse online rankings for top times on tracks for most racing games these days.

Its slowly moving towards gran turismo with its focus on proper driving when (in my opinion) it should've stuck with the arcadier feel early builds had. Its why the game feels so slow - you can't push a 2 tonne muscle car around a corner at 150mph in reality but thats what made a lot of the classic demolition derby style games (like destruction derby and demolition racer).
>>
>>332288714

Such a shame to hear they fucked up the game.
>>
>>332288876

>oh fuck that noise

There has been some gnashing of teeth on their forums around the previous patch as it turned all the grass o nthe side of the track into ice - the second you touch it you spin. They have reverted it for the current build.

Really wreckfest is shaping up to be a damn solid game, its just not destruction derby 3 or flatout 4 like everyone was hoping for. I still say its worth a pirate (lel early access) to see how its going. Hell if they simply upped the speed and nudged a.i aggressiveness (each patch is making the a.i angrier and angrier) upwards it would result in total destruction on some of the courses.

The rest of the courses though are clearly racan first, damage second which misses the point I feel.

Most Wanted is an odd beast, because it mixed the Underground travesty with some of the old NFS 3 locations. It has a slight bit of nostalgia feel, but there's a lot wrong with it. You got ricers and everyday cars in it, the rubberbanding is ridiculously strong, the game has no respect for player failure and consequences. Most Wanted is "the best of the new", if you will, because it borrows from the old. But it's still just a faint reflection of what made the old work so well.
And I say that as someone who did enjoy Underground 2, and what Most Wanted did. They're not bad games, really. They're awful NFS games though, and trampled a lot on what made NFS great.
The best "modern" NFS, if there's such a thing, is Test Drive Unlimited. It's the classic supercars, it's about the beauty of the cars, showcasing them, and the freedom of the road. Sadly, it has plenty of other flaws, and thanks to Ubi killing Eden, a successor is super unlikely. A shame, really.

Have you played Hot Stakes? No snark, genuine question. If you haven't, I highly recommend it. The visuals may not be the greatest anymore, but the career system is so well executed, and puts some real sense of accomplishment into the player. It feels very rewarding to actually obtain the more powerful cars, and manage to race them without making dents. It's quite a bit different from single race style of NFS, because you got to, no, want to take care of your car and eventually your garage. It's rich kid amateur street racing done right, without all the unnecessary flashy bling that came later, and without being just a shallow arcade racer

They've mentioned it in a blogpost before but they've been silent for a bit. They go quiet for a while and then release decently sized updates. I'm pretty sure they intend for modding to be a thing, track support through the Workshop, but they don't know how it'll be implemented.

There's literally just one thing you need to download and the game becomes perfect. Even without mods when the game is not at it's best, it still rocks better physics and content than Dirt Rally. In fact that comparison video IS unmodded.
>>
>>332295078
Because it was bad implemented.
Take midnight club or street legal racing for example, both have an open city to fuck arround.

Midnight club
>totally open world, you can take the path you want, but you must pass over the chekpoints
>need to find the cars on the streets and give a headlights flash to start the challenge
>with his "fantasy" setting, you can learn and practice jumpcuts and other stuff hidden in the maps, and lets you drive in the city like you were in a movie

Street legal racing and redline.
>you start in 1 garage in the middle of the city
>can buy new or used cars to tune em up
>need to increase rep points to go to a higher tier garage
>go outside on the city on the daylight, and you will find some racers, and police will pursuit you if you do street racing
>go outside on the city in the night and you will see street racing using some random part of the streets to make drag races
>you can still go and ask for a sprint challenge
>can race for fun, for money or for slips.
>it has realistic physics so you have to take care of street borders and little jumps.

Underground 2
>has an open city to fuck arround with it
>races have invisible walls to tell you where to go and casuals use em like in gran turismo to not stop at turns
>need to go randomply placed markers on the city to start challenges, but i can also trigger them by menu, like fast travel.
>forced to do visual upgrades to advance in the career mode
>no worries about damages at all
>need for speed physics lets you make a peugeot 206 that goes 360Kph and clips through the track

Not even mention juiced wich had better use of the open world.
It was shit.
>>
>>332296072
>Because it was bad implemented.
No, because it does not belong in NFS
NFS with "one" location just doesn't work. It's a showcase game, a game to show off cars and locations. It's not a game for a story, or exploration

Trackmania has been doing it since day 1, and it kind of carved out its niche, without impacting other racing games.

>Then don't add collision, is that so difficult to do? Just put people to race against each other and let them ghost through each other's cars, how the fuck wouldn't THAT work?
That is exactly what Trackmania does. And in fact one of the racing modes makes everyone start at the exact same moment, and the one to cross the finish line first wins; as opposed to the much more common mode where you get a fixed session time to produce your fastest lap time, and can reset the car anytime.

>>

Indeed, all the ghosts are what the players currently do. There may not be super sophisticated netcode though, because hitboxes don't matter, so occasionally they're off by half a second or so. But yeah, every car on the track is another player, where they are right now.
In single player the game does have best times ghosts, but unlike multiplayer cars, they're really transparent grey; while multiplayer cars like just like normal cars, without collision.

>races have invisible walls to tell you where to go and casuals use em like in gran turismo to not stop at turns

Fun fact: that is because of Honda. Honda did not want to be associated with street racing so to appease them (while naturally keeping their cars in the game as the civic is a boy racer car and thus fitting for the game) they slapped in those invisible walls.

They skirted the issue in underground 1 as each track is technically closed.

IMO people who play the type of racing games I like want cars that somewhat resemble real life ones. I've never been into games with loads of made up bullshit. I'll be letting my players be creative- you can create your own parts externally then import them into the game. then share them with other players. Sure, it's sectioned such as front bumper, wide body, spoiler etc, but theres nothing stopping you completely changing the way the car looks with a kit.

You can change performance too. Engine swaps, suspension tuning. You could take that car, or the rat rod I posted, and turn it into a jacked up off roader.

>Do you realize that you're tweaking tiny, unimportant details, ignoring the elephant in the room?
To a lot of people changing the look and performance of their car is very important. I really don't know what you mean by elephant in the room.

>I just don't see it being a valuable contribution to present day racing gaming
Your entitled to your opinion, but from where I'm sat your the type of player who likes things like Burnout, Wipeout etc. Which is a very different type of game to what I'm making. I've never been into those.

You've also got to remember how much work goes into these games- I don't have the resources to make any type of game I want. This project is achievable, and ultimately, the experience you have with it will come down to how creatively you use the features the game gives you.
>>

Why would you want to drive Group B in a video game?

Group B was "great" because it was one huge safety hazard, both for drivers and spectators. You can't die or injure anyone in a video game. Otherwise it's not really special in any way
>>
>>332303973
>Are you referring to Gran Turismo or the Grand Tourer section of vehicles?
The latter, in particular the tendency to take stock cars, add some performance tuning, and let them out on the "open world" (optional cops) or a closed circuit. That right there describes about 99% of all current racing games.

>You can change performance too. Engine swaps, suspension tuning. You could take that car, or the rat rod I posted, and turn it into a jacked up off roader.

Ok, I understand now. The obvious come back to that is, this type of game is very popular, but no game is yet to truly capture the spirit of modified car enthusiasts.

>That you're doing what virtually everybody else is doing in the genre at the moment

I think the USP of my game is mainly it will be centered around user created content. And not just liverys or "skins" but actual physical modifications. Sure you could just make a new bumper, but you could go all out and create your own mad max style car. No racing game I'm aware of is built ground up to allow users to be so creative with their cars in a open environment (i.e. not closed track).

>1080° wheel

>analog handbrake made out of a cheap wheel axis
>racing seat

The last 2 things i need are:

>force dynamics racing seat to simulate up to 2g of force
>clutch with force feedback to feel it like an actual clutch and learn about the friction point

All this shit exist for consumer use, its not posted on IGN all day as RAZR or the "vault" for the 360, but you can pretty much do a very seroius racing sim this days with all this.

Add good sims like rfactor 2 and you are pretty much done.

The real differences with F1 super secret sims are

>sim calculations are controled by a server made of 12 computers so the are alot more
>sim telemetry because they cant do real practices
>sim accuracy because they can suspend the cockpit in a floating giant hand inside a hangar and simulate 5g of forces.

Brakes also deserve its own Force feedback pedal, you could feel when you just touching the disk and start to make pressure.

How do they do that? Flipping the seat completely downwards, backwards or sideways only gives you 1g. If you do it quickly, you briefly get more, but not, for example, lengthy lateral 5g turns.

the one in the early pic is more like the shown from red bull, but those are broght in the truck for show, no one talks about the details of the sim, they all say the same, its the car cut in half, you get in and feels the same, and looks pretty similar, more from a technical point than a visual poin, key references to keep the race line or how to avoid certain areas.

That force dynamics can do a shake of 2g, but not a constant force, that arm in the other hand, can change its axis and rotate to generate as much force as they want, and apply it in every direction.

Acquire additional skill, with enough practice you'll "get it" and easily start pulling on the AI. Yeah but the cars handle as if they were on an ice rink. The top driver is making some ridiculously fast times, that are literally impossible to pull off even if I take risks and drive fast which usually ends up with me crashing. I'm always like 20 seconds behind the first time.

>>332310287
Well I can handle the car if I actually care, at least as far as regular cars are concerned. When it comes to the pikes peak cars I literally can't handle them, even if I set the car to be relatively stable when cornering.

The licensing issue is with the usage of Ferrari trademarks, I don't know anything beyond that. Ferrari has been moderately pissed at Sega for using a Testarossa back in 1986 without licensing it. Supposedly took a lot of begging to get them to agree on OutRun 2. I doubt they ever got a retroactive license for OutRun. The different badge and blurred car are probably just two different ways towards the same goal.

MC:LA had to be patched due to the level of bullshittery coming from the a.i. Even the first few races were usually won by fractions of a second due to the insane level of rubberbanding. I actually beat the game before they reduced the difficulty and let me tell you I nearly destroyed my controller in the process (wearing the buttons out yo).

Same thing happened to wipeout HD - the time trial gold times were originally the passing grade until a patch which introduced gold, silver and bronze because players were getting massively stuck going through the campaign.

>>332310652
Depends alot of the type of car and the "setup" that the games alows you to do.

The most important thing to learn in any AWD car is the nordic trick, the scandinavian twist, its just wave the car to have a sharper whip. find youtube vids abou it.

later, you need to know how much countersteer is actually needed.
Short annswer is none, you need to keep the car drifting but with the wheel centered, not countersteer as regular drifting, because the front wheels will also be pushing, so the first thing it happens is that you lost controll and the shit start to shake out of control if you countersteer as regular drift.

When you mix that "nordic trick" (just timing the drifting like a mix of arab drift and very agresive japanese drifting) and the no countersteer technique, you can manage 1000 HP AWD monster with no issue

The most easy thing to play is the torque split, try to send it to the rear to start, and you will feel the car more like a MR (honda nsx or the old group B RWD cars)

I used to make rally guides on GTplanet on the gt4 era. Good times.
>>
>>332311505

From what i understand, its the best solution to make a car drift with a pad, ill explain it the best i can.

>with a D pad and you need to turn to the left, wheel rotation is 35°
When you turn the dpad to the left, even if you fully push it, the wheel wont turn 35°, it wil slowly set in the best turning angle to avoid spining or understeer
But when you countersteer the D pad instantly responds and goes up to those 35° of rotation in half second. This will also apply to any wheel without force feedback

>force feedback wheelsame as before
when you turn the wheel to the left, it wont matter if its too much or not enoguh, the wheel will turn what you are telling them to, this gives you total control of the car, and what do with the wheels
So, add the canned physics that knows where you are on the track, and "helps" you out making you easier to turn or altering the physics it self to let you stay on race (this is mostly what separates the simcades from the fully arcades), and you will have a problem.

But here is where that drunk skandinavian fuck nails it, even in videogames with shit physics.

imagine the same situation, turn to the left with a Dpad again, following pic.

now, the game is expecting your first turn to apply that "helping" force with the wheel angle, but you release the gas and if you need extra twist, a little handbrake, despite how much the game will help you, you will oversteer(red mark), but now, you have full control of the angle towards the inside, and you will put it to the max for a little, untill the car has the same line as the exit (like shown on the third box or the yellow mark) and then place the car where you want if you need little corrections, put the wheel straight and then go full speed after the green mark.

Rally of argentina is use to be made of loooong straights, because wine roads and shit, there you have a place to test it. the car has some "weight" despite you use a Dpad, you need to push it a little further.

What 70s car are you driving? They're actually some of the harder cars to control, especially the Lancia which makes even experienced drivers sweat bullets. Compared to them the 80s BMW is heavenly to drive, it's so smooth and forgiving

Think you missed the point desu senpai. I was just pointing out running a game like that @4k/60 will need some serious hardware, that most normal folk don't own. I'm not saying you'll need more than 60 fps, I'm saying the game will be locked to it for physics calcs, so if it runs slower than that it'll probablly automatically down your res to fit your hardware. With the right hardware, sure, it'll look great, but is it the same game as the Xone? Nope. It'll be a P2W shit fest senpai.
>>
>>332306954
what do you mean "learn about the friction point", don't you have a car?
>>
>>332316528
Anon the point is that you CAN run it in 4k. You CAN see those cars look super beautiful. But even in 1080p/60 this game is still great. Even if it's a p2w shitfest. I wanna play SP only anyway, so there'll be some unlockers for the paid shit for sure.

That was Colin Mcrae

McRae died on 15 September 2007 when his helicopter, a Eurocopter AS350,[21] crashed 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Lanark, Scotland, close to the McRae family home.[22][23] McRae's five-year-old son Johnny, and two family friends, Graeme Duncan and Johnny's six-year-old friend Ben Porcelli, also died in the crash.[24][25] McRae's previously active website, ColinMcRae.com, was later replaced with a memorial screen stating a few details about the crash, and then with a short statement released on behalf of McRae's father, Jimmy,[26] and later a book of condolences.[26]

I can understand that. Licensing for living people is a matter of just finding someone who loves the sport and would love to have their name on a game with a little money on the side. Licensing a dead guy is a huge ordeal of talking to greedy family members who will play the grieving card but really just want to milk you for more money.

It's how the Mall of America lost the rights to Camp Snoopy from the series creator even though Charles Schultz woulda probably loved to have the park stay as a tribute to his series.

because assetto has dominance in the "sim" category, all assetto players write off p-cars as an arcade sim, which isnt entirely wrong.
I liked the game a lot, but its going to forever be in the shadow of gran turismo, forza, or assetto corsa, so people on those respective platforms dont have much incentive to play pcars.
