When do you give up on a new game?
One sure sign for me is if I keep going back to older games cause the new game can't seem to hold my attention. It's not bad or anything. But a game should be magnetic. It should pull you into it. Make you want to learn how it plays and what's fun about it.

I've given up on so many games just because they can't get the tutorial elements right.
When I am literally forced into looking up some obscure answer online because the game failed to teach me its fucking necessary mechanics properly, I almost always quit the game.
If you, as a developer, don't even care enough about your audience to show them how to play your fucking game, I see no reason why I should even bother trying.
I'm not saying hold my hand for everything and make it piss easy, but if there is some complex rule I have to follow or really weird button combination or fucking confusing menu, fucking tell me, instead of making me press random buttons for two hours trying to figure YOUR answer out.
