Sticks are too tight, restrictive, and inaccurate. Pads are where it's at. An optimal layout would be a Wii style numbchuck for your left hand with a pad on it and an arcade button layout for your lap that you can tap with your right hand.
Also the buttons would be small and there would be at least 8 out of them to allow for ppp and kkk. Each button would be about the size of your finger tip.

VF5FS is actually really fucking easy to pick up. Even complete casuals can have lots of fun just with the knowledge that striking beat throws, blocking beats striking and that by crouching you can block low attacks but get hit by mid.
Where the skill ceiling is a whole another matter though.

Nah, but this is the entire reason VF is hard. Pick up and play is non-existant in this game. You have to either play the tutorial, or have someone explain you the rules, otherwise you get blown up by sidestep counterhit damage or grabs.
