Usually the only kind of Pokemon used in the card game. They pump out really high damage for not much energy, and now are always basic not matter what stage they usually are.

Agreed. For 7 mana, 4 of which is colored, I can easily get a 6/6 flier with a decent ability or a 5/5 with a strong one. It won't win instantly if it gets through unblocked, but it's way more likely to actually connect with your opponent, instead of being killed by a mid-sized blocker.

there's a difference between colorless and generic mana. Generic mana is only in costs, and can be paid with any color mana or colorless mana.
colorless mana was originally only produced and not in costs, and the point was that the only place you would be able to use it was for generic mana cost.
colorless mana is now part of mana costs (though very few) and require colorless mana (as in they can't be of any of the 5 colors) mechanically making colorless mana a 6th color.

It's a difference between how colorless mana was represented in costs and in abilities that generated mana.
Since the beginning of time, a (3) in a cards cost meant that 3 generic mana (mana of any kind) was required to cast the card. If a land produced (3) mana, the mana it produced was not "generic" mana, it was colorless mana. Wizards decided that having the same symbol for generic mana costs and colorless mana creation was confusing, and added a symbol to the game to represent colorless mana.
With this additional symbol, they've also introduced the first cards that require specifically colorless (as opposed to generic) mana to cast. Thought-Knot Seer posted above is one of these cards, requiring 3 generic and 1 colorless mana to cast. I hope that helps.

Since I like to play mono green in standard and I don't have many answers for a lot of shit I just maximum ramp and with this card it pretty much resets the field so I can pump fat creatures while having the chance to make moves again. Really fucks up others if they just run something like 21 lands or they don't have that many cards.
Works even better if you can put a shit ton of stuff on the field or draw a lot. it counts tokens as being shuffled into the deck so having shit like whisper wood elemental increasing how many cards you will draw. You need to run a lot of lands or else you can screw yourself.
If you want to take it the next step further there are combos like using a cards that banish like isolation zone or hedron alignment because when those cards leave the cards they banished come in the field regardless of the great aurora so it guarantees you having something big to swing with.
Or it's just one giant stall that lets you deep draw into your deck for "that" card what ever it may be that you're running, but for green. It's just fun.

I remember putting together really cheap but unique and effective gimmick decks from whatever was in standard including core set stuff, now those don't exist anymore and the regular expansion cards seem really strict and specific so there's not a whole lot you can do other than the intended decks.
