Originally, a lot of plot holes; majority of which were resolved with Complete edition. Still leaves a lot to be desired though.

It added nothing of value to the overarching plot of FF7.
Instead of coming up with something new they simply rehashed the main villain from the game.
Despite being fanservice they couldn't even get Cloud's character right, and everyone has about 2-3 scenes and that many lines.
The plot is retarded garbage that makes little sense whether you're a fan of the game or not.
The action (arguably the biggest focus of the movie) was bland and uninspired with no dramatic tension or weight behind it.
I could go on but at this point I'm just beating a dead horse.

It was kind of boring. Spectacle fighting scenes only go so far.
It's like if someone took Devil May Cry 3, strung together all the cutscenes, and made it into a movie. It'd be enjoyable for a few minutes, but it fucking needs some cooldown. It can't just be an hour of watching non-stop floaty fighting physics.
