Not just half life 2 itself but the source engine was literally TOO good, Valve/Steam/Gaben made too much money and have no motivation to ever need to make another game. Sure, he could be cool and give us a half asses HL3 but why?

HL was the first game to do what it did, HL2 was more of the same, only worse. It came out after SS2, Deus Ex, SWAT, Soldier of Fortune and dozens of other FPSes that refined and innovated the genre and failed to incorporate any of their advancements.

There's no actual plot exposition in Half Life 2 or the episodes. You learn absolutely nothing. Your character never questions the world around him even when it's blindingly obvious he should. The silent protagonist shit is garbage, it works for RPGs where you actually have dialogue choices but not for an FPS where you're playing a cookie cutter character.

HL2 and Eps are essentially nothing more than a series of plot events that play out before you and that you don't react to.

The Halo series is unironically vastly superior.
