This game had one of the best Multiplayer modes of all times. Amazing customization, maps and overall gameplay.
I'll never get over the heart break of buying several iterations of Bomberman for the Playstation, only to find out they were nothing like 64. Shit, this game was our number one party game back in the day.

I was always missing like 1-2 cards per stage and could never find them. Sometimes I'd find the missing card on hard mode but couldn't get that same one to spawn on normal. There was one particularly heinous gold card in the volcano which pretty much involved DYING to get it. It has to hit the top of your head before you and it falls in the lava.
It was a nightmare.
The boss cards were a different nightmare.
I went back and stage by stage got all the gold cards a few years ago.
Some fairly high quality vidya puzzle design, all hidden behind the casual filter. The rainbow palace stages are great.

When I was younger, I thought max was "cooler" than bomberman and wished I could play him more, but now that I've seen more shit, I still kinda like him, but prefer him as a foil/sidekick to the OG bomberman. Kinda like nightwing to batman in a way. Max may be that kind of "2cool4u anti-hero", but Bomberman is the one who saves the day and gets shit done, no questions asked. You got an ass, he'll blast it. That said, I wish you could use Max's bombs as Bomberman for some sort of alternate attack method. They're technically infused with lightning and fire, so I could see them being the "bonus Zero buster" like how Maverick Hunter X had two different arm upgrades unlike MMX1.

Second attack uses the grid like movement system like in older Bomberman games still it's pretty good.

it was pretty neat to get that far and have that one asshole boss from the ice planet show up to help you out cause he was a cool guy.
i honestly spent my time playing that game dicking around trying to climb to off screen teleporters or locations through bomb stacking gymnastics and through my need to thoroughly explore i ended up collecting all the golden card things.
my only regret is that i never figured out how to apply costumes onto my bomberman in the multiplayer, i collected so many and i was too stupid to ever figure out why i couldnt apply it.

It's objectively the best bomberman, and the best way to bring him into 3d.
3d bombs are objectively better than cross bombs, and the second attack is completely ruined by bringing them back. There are those that will argue that the second attack is better, but from a gameplay standpoint, the first game beats it every time.
The levels, the secrets, the myriad of techniques, the music, the MULTIPLAYER, everything about 64 has long lasting appeal.
One of the best games in my n64 collection, if not the best. I go back and play this all the time and collecting the gold cards still kicks my ass.
Circle head bomberman is still the best design.

I know I opened this discussion with "trying to become rich" but to be honest as long as I can make people happy with a good bomberman clone I'd feel satisfied. Bomberman 64 Multiplayer was a big part in my childhood and it made me make some of my best friends in life, we still talk and are as close as ever and I'm sure trying to get those golden cards was a big part in us building such a strong bond.

4b. if you can host, start bomberman, close out so it creates a file in the save folder
5b. upload save
6b. make your room via the net play client
7b. Wait for players
8b. start game, make sure no one dropped, play video game
If you want, unlock the secret MP maps via pressing start fast on the main menu. Also if you ever intend on hosting again, make sure to delete your last save and re-use the one you uploaded.

Bomberman 64 has some really awesome character designs with the Masked Trio, Sirius and Altair.
Nitros from Hero was pretty cool too. I love the repeated rival battle trope, never really gets old for me.

The last level of TSA is one of the sharpest difficulty spikes I've ever seen in a game. Every other level takes like half an hour on your first go through and its all piss easy.
A speed run of just the level part of that last stage takes 20 minutes.
Then you fight your Indiana Jones waifu.
Then you have traverse a pain in the ass, instant kill lava flow with ice bombs.
Then you have to fight Darth Vader who is not fucking around
Then you fight LITERALLY Satan
Then you fight LITERALLY GOD

My most played bomberman game is the one on pc? Back when every pc had win 95? We would play it in the school's computer labs. Multiplayer on the same keyboard was funny.
Also the racing game on ps1. It was a bootleg capable ps1 that some kid had and we all played it. He had a ton of pirated game cds but bomberman racing was the most popular.

Hell, bomberman was originally a human back on the original computer game. Supposedly, Indy Bomber might be a nod to this, since, in the jap instruction book, he's Bomberman's Grandfather. They also share similar clothes.
