Why did Sephiroth need to summon a meteor to destroy the earth when he could summon this magical beam of energy that destroys the sun and the entire solar system?

Why are they worried about a meteor destroying the Earth after Sephiroth already destroyed the sun and basically the entire solar system?

Why didn't they die when the sun was feet away from their faces?

>>
>>332140994
*tips glasses* this is now a lore thread, you see the fact that they don't give a fuck about the sun and all that shit being destroyed is implying than final fantasy VII as we know it doesn't take place in earth.
That or that animation is just a device to tell that the attack is pretty fucking brutal.
>>
Apparently the Japanese version doesn't have the shitass long animation.

>>
He's not blowing up the solar system you're in stupid, he's destroying OUR solar system
>>
>>332141515
In the original Japanese version, Supernova was just an explosion. I think it had a different effect, also. In the US and later International version, it uses the longer animation.

I'm retarded for laughing at this.

It's one of the best parts of the whole game, though.

Yeah it's stupid plotwise and makes zero sense, but it's so fucking ridiculously awesome that it's okay.

Good thing this never became a trend.
>>
>>332140994
He was just showing off his newfound cosmic powers, I don't think he was literally destroying a solar system every time.

It was more like he was conjuring up all this insane shit and hitting them with it

the whole end of the game was sort of metaphysical struggling, especially the final fight which was in cloud's mind

You see, it's a visual metaphore in conjuction with a powerful attack forseeing the fate of the planet, he's demostrating his power trying to break your will giving you a mental picture, not a hallucination or a magical hologram, but a mental picture demostrated to the player graphically, but to the characters is a mental metaphore done by sheer strenght of mind and power, of what would happen if you fail.

So the comet would have to travel really fast. The animation shows it coming from outside the galaxy. It would take millions of years for it to reach the solar system. It was all predestined, sephiroth just knows it would happen, he doesn't actually summon anything, unless he gets the power to affect the distant past.
>>
>>332142046

about that...

and you can use it as long as you have enough energy (and this thing regains energy because it runs on a black hole)

Sephiroth was probably tired though after blowing up a few other solar systems. I get tired sometimes too and don't really feel like doing stuff anymore. I feel for the guy, ice cap where he was staying didn't look like it had any decent mattresses so maybe his back hurt. He was kind of old and active people often get joint and back pains younger anyway.

>>
Can't Bahamut Zero kill the meteor?
>>
>>332142983
I think you either need Knights of the Round or Omnislash, or be like level 90 to kill him without him casting that move, which yeah, would make the fight trivial.

And Final Fantasy VII isn't exactly a hard game. Most Final Fantasys aren't.

You'll probably find a higher percentage of OCD completionistfags on here then average, I know I went and did everything before facing him the first time. Got every break, got KotR, beat Ruby/Emerald, maxed materia, etc. Explored the shit out of the world and helped contribute to faqs and shit back when it was all new, really fun times. But of course since there was no scaling that meant Sephiroth got roflstomped without me really meaning too, though I still enjoyed it plenty. I actually reloaded from a save and let him have more turns after a friend told me about super nova just so I could see it and his other moves rather then treating it seriously.

I think it'd be cool if more games had some sort of secret boss mode for the autismal munchkins amongst us. Like if you were at 95+ or had unlocked certain stuff, suddenly the boss would get massively harder and have an extra super move and maybe you'd get a little extra secret scene. Would be kind of a neat easter egg, even though these days everyone would find out about quickly.
>>
>>332143695
I think if you use KotR on the last JENOVA boss the Sephiroths get huge health boosts. It also has the first last Sephiroth battle where your characters levels determine how complex it is.

He doesn't want to destroy the planet, he just wanted to harm it enough so he could fuse with the lifestream.
>>
>>332144025
It's been long enough that I'm fuzzy on the details, I know they did some cool stuff like that from time to time. Hell, I still remember how fucking awesome it was in Chrono Trigger to beat Lavos in the undersea palace (though that it didn't have harder 2nd/final forms too and its own secret end is my only real disappointment in the entire game).

Even so though I was ludicrously OP and I know it, I remember I had a bunch of material outright duped, I mean yes it was silly, it's like bitching about how laughable the ending of Disgaea was if you beat Bhaal and everything else first before going for the first time. And FF7 was a lot better then that actually. Still, it'd be cool if they had something that really went all out and made you sweat no matter what, even at L99.

I mean, I recognize particularly in the modern era that it might not make business sense to spend much time on something 99.9% of your playerbase will never experience outside a youtube video. It'd be fun anyway though.

How do you snatch a gas giant, /v/?
>>
>>332145047
realistically you can't use a chain or something because they're just made of gas and it will go right through. you need a net at least to catch it then you can use a chain on the net to pull it, but you can use a chain or rope directly.

How does everyone get 9999 health? Massive grinding to the max level? What the fuck kind of scrub are you if you have to grind in FF for the final boss? Or cheat for that kind of health?
>>
>>332143292
Yeah that was pretty ridiculous. Although IIRC didn't they mercifully add some sort of short version of accelerated one or way to skip it or something in FF8? I can't remember anymore exactly what it was but I feel like they did something in response to complaints about FF7 which were basically "it was cool the first time, cool once in a while later, and irritating as fuck multiple times per battle".
>>
>>332146754

>>
>>332146754
I can't think of any FF game that hasn't had at least a few if not many straight forward tricks to max health short of sheer leveling. Although often it's more a side effect rather then something anyone bothers with directly.
>>
>>332146835

There's an option to instantly max out all stats for the whole party

Also, the supernova animation is in cinematic 7 fps and the sfx for aerith's death doesn't sync with the music

To be fair, Dark Prison's animations are leagues above whatever the PS1 can pump out, It doesn't help that you get to listen to Koyasu's sexy voice as he derides the enemy.

Sephiroth caused a powerful supernova in another system that unleashed a gamma ray burst that hit the player characters.

There is a point where some animations became over two minutes like this, there was also a point I just pressed skip.
>>
>>332147163
>Literally Go Make Yourself A Sandwich: The Move
Yeah some of that combo shit could get fucking stupid, that was one part that got pretty roundly mocked. Although in fairness, there weren't actually many enemies in the game powerful enough to survive long enough to really get through a chain, mainly just the Weapons I think. So in practice you didn't plumb the real depths of ludicrousness very often. But it was still silly.

I think even Square realized they'd gotten a little carried away in moving from the SNES to PS1 and suddenly having so much space to work with. "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" is ever more important the more power devs got to work with. A lot of the old hardware imposed limits actually made for good vidya, now that has to be replaced with self-discipline.
>>
>>332143695
this is how i've been with rpgs lately

played wild arms 1 and by the time i got to the final boss i had everyone's best everything and had killed all the optional bosses
>>
>>332143695

>>
>>332149516
i believe if you use KOTOR on Jenova it flags the game to give Seph an extra 50k HP to compensate
>>
>>332142865
THEN WHO WAS AERIS?!?!?!?!
>>
>>332149516
>>332149782
It's both

but if you kill the "head" of the second of the three bosses then final sephirioth actually loses a certain amount of health
>>
>>332149447
It's actually a curse. It makes me more hesitant to play RPGs in the first place because I can't help myself and I end up sinking dozens and dozens of hours, sometimes even over a hundred, into ones that friends blaze through in under 10. I just somehow cannot wrap my mind around direct runs that others seem to find the most normal thing in the world, to me exploring every nook and cranny, talking to everyone, plumbing the game system, getting 100% and all that is the whole deal. I'm genuinely kind of jealous of people who can move right along, I'd probably play more vidya if I knew it wouldn't consume my life.

>>332149516
>>332149782
Yeah he gets a bit buffed but it's fundamentally the same thing and it's still easy to just nuke him anyway once you start fucking with mime and the like. He doesn't become another Emerald/Ruby.

He did want to destroy the world but not in some huge explosion. He wanted to "wound" the planet to draw out a massive response from the lifestream. At the center of it all, he would absorb all that energy, make Jenova complete again, and use the planet as a vessel to travel to another planet to do the same thing. He was as much of a puppet as cloud was.
>>
>>332144430
And in AC, he wanted to turn the planet into a bio ship so he can fuck other planets. Say what you will about the guy but he's very creative in his schemes of power.
