Basically, yeah. Each DLC has a coop-focused boss fight, like Gank Squad, Lud and Zallen, and Blue Smelter Demon.
They also made it so that summoning players or NPCs on bosses increases their HP to stupid fucking amounts. The NPC summons they added for most bosses are also absolute trash that do nothing but serve as target dummys while you whittle away doubled boss HP. Summoning basically makes the fight harder in some cases.

I don't think it was bad, but it wasn't good as a souls game. The story is the same way, it was decent but it didn't feel anything like DS1. The atmosphere was the worst part - I didn't think there was one place in 2 that has the same kind of creepy or mysterious atmosphere as the first.
