It takes too much effort to beat it in the areas it stands out.
Why bother when you can make open world single player MMOs with cookie cutter quests that sell multiple million copies?

I literally just started my first ever playthrough about an hour ago.
I just marathoned the tutorial, does it get any better?

Who the fuck is going to do Vampire now? Paradox has clearly a team already working on it, of that there is no doubt. However with Obsidian out, who were the number one candidate, who the fuck can do it well without it being indieshit, "online", or mobile?
>>
>>332129986
There's a bit of replayability, since the recommendation is to do a Malkavian, Nosferatu, and any other clan playthroughs since it's almost like three completely different games story wise that way. Most people recommend anything other than Nossy first not because it's hard, but because you have to skip a lot because just being seen by people on the streets causes masquerade violations, and 5 of those is immediate game over. And they recommend Malkavians as a second/third playthrough because all of their dialog would seem like nonsense as a new player, and actually contains quite a few spoilers in the dialog.
>>
>>332129986
>But seriously, I'm really enjoying it so far.

Well, better prepare yourself because it only gets better as it goes on (except for the last part of the game). I played Nosferatu first, it's very fun. You don't even have to use the sewers.

>I know it's going to be very difficult for a first time playthrough but I don't mind.

It's not hard really, it's just a bit annoying because it goes out of its way to be different for the Nosferatu, but it's not really complete, so a few things feel a bit off.

As someone who suffered the same fate on the quiz on my first playthrough, here are some tips:
The prince's security guard won't let you in, so you have to get in the building through the sewers. I believe there's no indication of this anywhere.

That said you probably won't ever walk through the front door again, but you have to there after the quest on the ship (you'll know which when it comes) to complete a previous quest and get a really cool bonus thing.

Also, you can use the taxi anyway.

You should leave this thread until finishing it. And don't open it.

>>332131321

Not much to tell. Group was all standard human, ghost hunter types.
First thing they encounter is a haunted house ala Ocean House Hotel. They spend an hour trying to figure out how to release the spirits. Find clues and all that. As they leave, one guy points out the person that hired them to investigate was just planning on bulldoze the place. It was just the ghosts chasing away the demo people. So they start an electrical fire.

The car thing was when they were investigating weird goings on at a dock. Two Gangrel came to chase them off. They proceeded to run them over repeatedly.

I don't know why people are so prone to set shit on fire. I once took part in a Dark Ages chronicle that one dude wanted to buy poison from a botanist or whatever, walked in to the store and started haggling. He haggled and haggled, arguing that he paid much less for his dagger he could use many more times than poison or some retarted shit like that, but eventually failed so hard the dude threw acid on his face, disfiguring him. The he got mad and set fire to store, but forgot he was a vampire and went into rotschreck and ran through the city scaring some dudes with his face.

As an old DM that often gets the introducing new players duties at the local club:

a) Whatever the game, very often new players will go for violent solutions. They feel - are - free to do anything, and unless you give them good reasons not to will take the shortest path.

b) Specifically for Vampire, from personal experience, *very* few DMs actually use the rules for Rötschreck, Frenzy and Humanity properly, if at all. Which kinda helps a lot with the spreading of violence and fire.

In what way? Gameplay? Just about every other decent action game out there.

Roleplaying? Most cRPGs, VTMB all but funnels you.

Character progression? Both combat and dialogue encounters barely progress at all, dialogue skills just add a contextual "I win this conversation" button and combat skills are worthless passives and underwhelming spells.

Dialogue-driven contemporary-fantasy/gothic aRPG? Nah, VTMB is still the champ.

Now if you excuse me, I've got to reinstall this bitch.

If you can find one with STs who want to attract newbies then yeah you'll have fun. That's how I got in with a good group but after a couple of years the STs were voted out by the close friends power gamers and took control of the game, making it just a huge circle jerk for them.

You mean like most cRPGs?
What cRPG with a strong focus on the manipulation of narrative elements does not funnel you? Might just be me being tired, but I can't think of many. And those I can think of managed because they were pretty anemic on that front.

>>332143386

Thing is, we're probably going to have a hard time agreeing on what isn't a shit control to replace the service-able, if certainly not outstanding, one Bloodlines had.
>>
>>332143487
Elder Scrolls is so lacking in railroading that most people don't even finish the main quest.

Course that brings up the question whether or not being a roleplaying aid makes for a good game, but that's another discussion.
>>
>>332143632

The question I find in those cases is less "is this a good game?" and more"is this a game you want to play?" really...

>>332143436
>Deus Ex and the Elder Scrolls

I don't think DX is any better on that front really - there are things at which it excels and undoubtedly has Bloodlines beaten - emergent systems, level design... but on the narrative manipulation front it's all smokes and mirrors.

And the Elder Scrolls - though not the games I had in mind - would perfectly fit the "anemic narrative manipulation" descriptor as far as I'm concerned. There's a lot of data. There's not much in complex interwoven states and interactions. Which is why you can so easily be free. There's hardly a need to make the different micro-storylines abide by one another's resolutions and schedules.
>>
>>332144438
>it's all smokes and mirrors
Can't ask for much more in a virtual medium.
>>
>>332143632
I agree but what I mean is that they don't give much options roleplaying-wise. Barely any option in conversation that don't matter, no quest branching, etc. While they let you do a lot of stuff in the narrative, in the end you don't get much option inside that stuff, and most of it is terrible, doesn't matter, will go against the foundation of your character, or any combination of those.

>>
>>332144513

I don't know, I think, say, Fallout 1&2 - or Arcanum - managed something pretty compelling on that front.
You can have games that will track and react to things you did, the order, the state, various qualities and take them into account, and actually surprise by the extent by which they do. Because it *will* actually matter.

But I would say those games are the exception.

To quote >>332112937, I think the biggest disappointment for us is that we were picturing a time when DX and Fallout and Half Life would merge into some complex, complete gaming experience. And what we got instead is a constant devolution of the genre in the name of accessibility while all the technological advancement we made were squandered on putting a new shiny coat of paint on an ever shrinking turd.
