Let's start a thread dedicated to MMOs.

>Wag your e-penis about how highly-leveled you are

>Buyan
>Lootan
>Boss Grindan

What's your favorite MMO, /v/?

I'm looking for recommendations for an MMO to play.

I have two requirements:
>1. No monthly fees (One-time purchases are fine, though.)
>2. I want to be able to be a merchant.

I loved Recettear, but I wanted to be able to interact with real people. Does anyone know of an MMO where you can go dungeon crawling then sell your wares to random players? I really want to be a traveling merchant and be known for the cool shit that I carry.

Anarchy online. It had kickass quest generator.
WoW at it's launch. It felt magical.
Rift. It was fun for first month but died quickly.
Ragnarok online. Perfect music, cute art and dark art mixed together. Played nicely.
>Wag your e-penis about how highly-leveled you are
I usually reached max level with all classes on any mmo i played. Did not however reach such levels in Final fantasy realm reborn, Guild wars 2 or Blade and soul.
>Tradan
>Buyan
>Lootan
Rare and powerful loot>>>>Constant gear upgrade.
>Boss Grindan
People who have not played Ragnarok online don't even fucking know the true meaning of boss grind.

What's my favourite MMO? Most likely Ragnarok online. MMO as it is now is pretty dead to me.

Dat feeling when I made my first char in WoW. Spawning in as a Nelf hunter, being blown away by this magical world. Ah to be young again.

Right now GW2 is the only mmo I play with any sort of regularity. That's right, I like GW2.

I havent had the energy to get into any MMO since I stopped playing WoW at Cataclysm. Now and thne I get huge craving to play some but it just never is enough to actually find and play something. I tried Tera and it was fun I guess, same with Blade and Soul. But neither of them captured me enough. I guess I will try Tree of Savior when it comes out because it has so many seemingly cool classes I want to play as. I feel kind of sad since I could find some new cool friends from these MMOs due to my current social life being very lonely. But I guess I wont play any anyway.
>>
I would love a MMO to play.

The last one I tried was Wildstar, but after playing for a few days I got bored. Just quest after quest, none of them memorable.
>>
I have some hope for Crowfall for the purely PvP MMO but I've given up on PvE MMOs because they're mostly shitty themeparks.

Black Desert would be great if it wasn't a single player game with chat in PvE.

MMO's are dead. All the "saviors" like ToS and BD have been garbage and some even cancelled like Everquest: Next.

Yes, I have seen the threads and such about the tokens and junk. But the game is still free to play so I will lose nothing by trying it out.

Even if I didnt try it out, there arent really any alternatives. Have to cling to hope that something works out.

Right now Im playing WoW and ESO after taking a break from FFXIV

Im only playing WoW because of the legion hype and after my sub runs out, I wont be back untill the pre-expansion event

ESO on the other hand is really fun but like any other MMO its mind numbingly boring if you play solo. I'd like it more if I had people to play with and if I could figure out how to continue the story quests but aside from that the game is really fun and expansions come out quarterly from what I've heard.

not beyond buying stuff from one place/looting it from mobs/fishing it and then selling it in another place as far away as possible.

the trick is to create a node network so that you can sell stuff at higher price farther from where you got it.

>>332101996
yeah unfortunately you cannot trade directly between players, only via the marketplace.. which has dynamic price limits imposed by the devs...

crafting however I find it enjoyable. It's complex enough to not be mindless, but not to the extent where you feel lost.
>>
>>332102324
I already played Recettear to death and it's pretty decent.
>>
My all time favorite was Anarchy Online. But when it comes to mmo's I generally think that it is the people you play with, not the game itself. Fondest memories from all the mmo's I have played have been because of the people in my party, the bant, the synergy, the oh shit moments, the wipes, etc.
>>
>>332102362
>ground combat is like a much better KotOR
Unless it's been changed to hell and back, hardly better than even KotOR. The space combat is pretty damn great, though. I wish the ground combat was removed so they could focus more on the ship stuff.

I've been thinking of getting into STO, but 300+ eurobucks of DLC makes me depressed. Is it playable as a F2P game, or is there some specific pack I should buy?

My favorite of all time was FlyFF. I met so many great people in that game. People I'm still friends with to this day, oddly enough. Early 2000's MMO culture was so much different. People hung out. Taking a break from FF14 with my cousin currently. We do 2v2 arena in wow every week just for fun.

On the side, I'm trying to get blazing drake from dragonsoul each week on 3 characters. Really getting sick of that place. Also recently started working on argent tournament dailies for the nice pally mount recolor. I'm hoping tomorrow is the last day I have to do it.

Two of my co-workers also got me to install TERA and play that with them. I'm about level 20. Combat is fun sometimes (I'm a slayer), but my God the soulless Korean mmo feeling.

Not trying to convince you but as long as you can afford the subscription your time investment doesn't matter. I had times where I would log in once a month, farm for an hour and burn that money in pvp.

As for catching up to great players, nobody cares about great players. Everybody knows the story and name of the first titan ship, but barely any of those people remember the name of the its pilot. The greatest players are those who participated or witnessed the greatest stories.

While your friends do sound horribly casual, I should also say that Tera PVP feels a bit degraded from before, there's really only two places to fight, and that's the lumbertown line of quests after the tutorial area, and then level 65 castle siege pvp, everyone's more content in just hanging around town and using vanguard to go to the next dungeon run, it's really sad there's so few other players just wandering about.

hey guys,

I played WoW for 5000+ hours and FFXIV for 3000+ hours, dropped WoW when it was polarizing between extreme casual and hardcore raiding/pvp guilds, dropped FFXIV because it seemed the zones were small, the gathering system sucked, and the graphics and design are forever tied to PS3 limitations. I also tried TESO for around 200 hours, but it sucked and I couldn't get into it.

Also, my first child was born (he's eight months old now!) and there was a shakeup at my job after we got bought by another company so I had to take on a bit more responsibility (read: unpaid overtime), but things have settled down now and I'm ready for MMOs again. /coolblog

I'm looking for something promising, with good graphics as a priority (better than TESO), good PvP, preferably fantasy based but I'm cool with space too (not star wars though). Also, I can't play 6-10 hours a day like I did in high school and university, so something a bit more casual.

Anything coming down the pipeline, anything y'all keepin an eye on?
>>
I can only get into non-RPG MMOs now - like Freejack, S4 League, and Dungeon Fighter Online. The first 2 were fun as fuck back in Beta, but cash shop fucked everything up. I've played DFO for a long time, but that eventually burned me. Nothing to do in the end game but grind for gear, which becomes disheartening after a while.

No other action based MMO holds my interest.

What's your MMO disappointment of the year?
>BDO
>PVP is all about stats and p2w suit, no skill involved.
>money is useless due to no Player to Player trading.
>fishing hotspots make the whole ocean useless, everyone on the server just AFK fishes on the same small spot and ignores the whole ocean.
>PVE is just dull AOE grinding.
>horse breeding is RNG to see if your 12-24 hours of horse leveling actually gives you any progress or not, again no skill of any kind involved. Not even knowledge, you are just at the mercy of autorun and RNG.
>game punishes you for PVPing HARD unless you are participating in a guild war.
>guild wars cost money, which means nobody wants to start them.

I'm so sad this game didn't live up to the hype.

If they allowed things like stealing trade loot when killing players that would make being in negative karma actually fun and part of the gameplay, not just a punishment.

You could for example set up raids to the fishing hotspots, kill all the AFK fishers, steal their fish and therefore make the spot dangerous. This could lead to people spreading out and using more of the ocean rather than just AFKing near the 2nd city of the game.
>>
>>332109968
The average party in FFXI was 6 people for exping. Large stuff like Dynamis was anywhere from 18 to 40+.

The main way the game forced you to party was by making enemies your own level capable of absolutely shitting on you, with ones under your level virtually worthless from an EXP standpoint.

Vanguard was one of my favorites, I'm hoping Pantheon can be a successful spiritual EQ1 successor, that's really the only MMO I'm looking forward to.

It actually was hyped up very well and the launch was good, too good infact, the servers couldn't handle it for a month and so people who bought the game with the free 30 days gametime just went back to WoW.

How would that be any different than Second Life? I find it hard to imagine an MMO with actual gameplay where you could freely have sex with anything that moves that isn't just a gimmick.

Is Albion any good?
>>
>>332112847
I don't know, shit is in closed beta.
what've read about it is that the game plays like a Diablo-game is that and Ranged/Mages skills rule the game completely (poor STR types)

Was fun when it was still up, I loved my psionicist.

No.

Are there any MMO's that are actually worth playing anymore? was playing LOTRO until i realised how much the cash shop ruins the game now and that the lower levels are dead and pointless.

Quality over quanitity. The thing only had about 100 quests all up, and new quests were big, major patch deals. Most people would probably throw a tantrum if WoW or something similar did the same thing.

Scarlet Blade, it was shit.

I do wonder about these people who are seriously looking forward to a lot of that kind of stuff. Have some standards

What's the ideal PvP system in an MMO lads?
>>
No fucking mention of Global Agenda, only two mentions of UO, and only one mention of City of Heroes/Villains.

I am disappointed.

The game is hot fucking trash. It's like a really pretty girl who can only count to chair. The game is as shallow as a puddle and the "endgame" hasnt changed since the game came out. When your playerbase knows of just what to expect from every single patch you should really just fucking change it up some. They won't though. You will get more gay gear treadmill content and it will always be the same amount of content. They will continue to create things just to throw it away. They will never make meaningful gear progression. They will always think their playerbase is retarded and they will never make the game complex in any way shape or form. SE is fucking garbage and they're just a step above blizzard for me at this point.

Is Black Desert Online worth a buy?
I honestly haven't played an MMO in over a decade but I've got the itch
>>

it's comfy and has hella grinding

looks like shit to me personally but some people seem to enjoy it

Questing in ffxi was not what you would expect. In ffxi you would mainly do quests for gear or for unlocking new content or even just story related things. I think there may have been a couple of quests that gave exp. Your main source of exp came from grouping up and killing monsters.

Now they have these little npcs out in areas all around where you can take little objectives to kill x amount of enemies and you get exp that way solo. You can also get npcs that follow you around and act as party members. And no you never had to group up for mining and gathering.
The only time you have to group up usually is when you're doing fights or leveling, which is pretty much most of the game.

Now with the game how it is you can do all of the expansions solo aside from adoulin. Gear is really fucking strong now.
