Anybody who actually likes the series and played them will say they're equal. They both have a fair amount of pros and cons

I've never played Demon's Souls so I think Dark Souls is better.

Demon's Souls didn't stand the test of time, it already feels like an outdated clunky mess compared to its sequels.

Demon's Souls has the far more thought-out lore and world design. It doesn't have a significant drop in quality at any point like Dark does. It's also not bugged out the fucking ass.

It comes down to preference because of how linear Demon's is in comparison though. Demon's is very tight but linear, Dark is very loose and occasionally shoddy but feels really good when the openness works.

I prefer Demon's. I wouldn't even call Dark a finished game and the second half almost always halts my replays. Demon's is a lot less replayable but it feels far more polished and finished.

That said, a Dark-style game with the polish of Demon's (which is what Dark 3 is looking like to me so far) would be amazing.
