A good trick is to distract yourself from gaming for a couple of years. I killed a couple of years traveling with minimal game time. Now I just don't jump ahead in releases and enjoy games thoroughly at minimal expense. It's even better if after not playing games for such an extended period that you start out on much older games than you're familiar with, and work your way back up the graphics food chain. Now I always have a large backlog, and as long as one decent game comes out every few years going forward I'll be set for life.
