What made this unequivocally the best final fantasy game?

I dug the story and characters. I liked how it was linear and did away with the world map, to eliminate annoying aimless wandering in a world map, but still wasn't so linear it wasn't a hallway simulator. Getting rid of the shitty ATB timer bars made it more strategic. Awesome music. Awesome atmosphere.
by incorporating the battle system into the story and doing world building around all those concepts. It made things seem more seamless, they were logical and they ended up playing off all those things well.

Blitzball. The whole thing is just a vehicle for the greatest game ever developed. It's criminal that they didn't make a dedicated spin-off series based around it.
