It can be disabled.
Good thread.

But OP, they need to appeal to a broader audience!

You just asked to be disapointed

This game is going to drop price quicker than an AssCreed game.

nope. b-b-back off!!

don't care, just want a sequel.

concept was fun as hell and it deserved another game.
>>
>>331778168
buy it twice bro;)
>>
>>331778061
Didn't pay attention to Assassins Creed proce drops was it faster than Tales of Zestiria?
>>
It can be turned off.
Also, considering the fact that it's an open world, it kind of makes sense. In the original you didn't need a trail because it was a fucking linear route, in Catalyst there are presumably a lot of routes and missions will want you to run one.
>>
>>331777340
The article says it can be turned off if the player wants to. What are you upset about?
>>
>>331778356
desu i'm not pretending to be mad about this but "open world" is the most ambiguous term of the last 5 years.
>>
>>331778356
>Mirror's Edge
>open world

Oh god, that sounds horrible.
>>
>>331778565
By all accounts it works well.
Reminder that open worlds can be better than linear ones if they are designed incredibly well - they just rarely are.
>>
CASUALS
>>
>>331778629
True, but I can't really get my expectations up with EA/DICE.

I hope it's good, though. The first game was fun as hell, short as it was.
>>
>>331778629
Well obviously. That's why the concept is popular. It's what we want. Hallway/Corridor shooters are SHIT and boring as fuck after the very first playthrough or possibly even during the very first playthrough. Having a Crysis 1 kind of "open but guided" level design is god tier.

Sadly instead of grasping that concept, most developers just make lazy ass open levels that don't have anything interesting about them. They're just really, really wide corridors with no alternative routes, things to discover, or puzzle pieces to put together so the way ahead is easier.
>>
>>331778356
what's the fun in following a trail though? i understand that it can be turned off, but the fact that it has to be disabled makes me worry that the devs don't really understand what mirror's edge should be
>>
I am just curious what the first Anita Sarkeesian designed game would be like. If it ends up being good then we can expect more games from this up and coming game designer.

Are you fucking kidding?
You should have given up hope when they decided to reboot the series after the first game.

It makes sense in an open world game. And if you don't want it, you can disable it.
>>
>>331779135
The original mirror's edge had highlighted surfaces and extremely simplistic controls, so if they're going down the casual route they're staying perfectly inline with the first game
>>
>>331778382
Because I can guarantee you that it permeated other aspects of the games design philosophy.

"Oh, we don't want to do that, players will get confused."

Seems to always happen, you would think giving them a hint system would mean devs would make the course harder, but it's the opposite. People hate it when they feel stupid, so the course will be dumbed down so that people come to the conclusion the hint system shows and they will feel good about themselves.

"Oh, I could have figured it out without this."

You're taking it to an extreme that it isn't even going to. All they're doing is adding an arrow, which, considering how linear and narrow the levels were in the first game(not to mention the bright red paint all over the intractable pieces of the level, making the route the game wanted you to take really obvious), isn't much of a step down.
>>
>>331779465
Yeah, and one which EA has since denied.
>>
>>331777736
Not OP, but the problem I have with this is that it allows for casuals and retards to finish the game and hop online to discuss it without actually playing the game (ie figuring out the routes getting good at seeing paths without needing handholding) and shitting up discussion. Devs should stop pandering to casuals like bioware and their I want to skip gameplay bullshit. Easy mode is fine to an extent but it shouldn't be the default. I don't want turbocasuals and people who don't actually like playing their games invading my safe space.

I loved the clean, sterile visuals of the first game and the vivid spots of color here and there contrasting the large white surfaces. I'd be disappointed if the sequel didn't aim for a similar look. So far I've been liking what they've showed of the sequel.
>>
>>331784241
It's not too bad, but it feels like they switched from concrete to shiny matte plastic in one too many situations.

Thank fuck it seems the issue is limited to the high-class, rich districts and buildings tho, you can still see plenty of concrete here:
