Combat and farming is better in 4. Waifu personalities aren't as good if you liked the RF3 gimmicks that much but they go through more character development then 3's do. Plus there are less waifus because they made husbandos for the girls, so only 6 waifus and 6 husbandos.

You can make that claim all you want about 1, but I will fight you to the death if you say that about 2.
3 simply decided that everything's gotta-go-fast (including the clock). Problem is that it resulted in almost no variety with the weapons. It straight-up reverted to RF1's "run up to them and combo them until they're dead," only you're no longer limited to the shortsword.
There was a fuckton of improvements between each game, but not everything was for the better.
