> copy an existing idea
> make it 2D and indie
How does indie dev get away with this? They are literally stealing ideas for Dark Souls and Harvest Moon respectively. What's next? Megaman? Castlevania?

>What's next? Megaman? Castlevania?
Joke's on them.
I'm stealing their stolen ideas and making 1D games out of them.
Does it fucking matter? -If- they make a good or better game then who cares who originally thought of it. Sure, a lot will be derivative shit but something doesn't have to be original or innovative to be good.
I think it's great.
It's good, the games are actually good. HM games have gotten pretty fucking shitty lately, unless we're talking rune factory
To be fair, the main source material is an SNES game from 20 years ago. I think it's OK to use a formula that old.

They didn't even "make it 2D" for Harvest Moon, they always were 2D, they also made 3D games but 2D was how it originally was and still remained quite often.

When it's still an active franchise? If they were taking INSPIRATION or something, definitely, but this is a 1:1 clone without a single thing different aside shitty indie art, it's probably even enough that if the publishers wanted they could sue them for it.

That's surprisingly fun
What's the game on the left?
Is it fun?
>>331728661
Fuck you OP, all you've made me want to do is check out the game on the left.

Beat it last night. Not OP. Taking a small break to do some studying then plan to immediately get into NG+. game is fun as hell
>>331730761
Okay, so what is it?

Salt and Sanctuary
Taking inspiration from competitor games has always been a thing in the industry. Why do you think Side scrolling platformers dominated the industry in the 90s? Why do you think casual shooters dominated the industry in the 00s? Why do you think cinematic bullshit dominates the industry now?
Stardew Valley appeals to an unfulfilled niche on PC outside of emulation. Its success can be attributed to the quality development and postrelease follow up.

Title has Salt in it, its ps4 only.

Vita and PC releases are coming later.

It's a metroidvania. Pretty difficult, but really fun combat and boss battles. Tons. TONS of connectivity and cool secrets, upgrades, boss weapons, etc. Has a cryptic Dark Souls story that you can reveal with item descriptions. Creeds, which are basically covenants that have some interesting (but vaguely presented) mechanics.
Took me about 30 hours to beat NG, and I leave my PS idle a bunch. Art style of characters is shit, but the bosses and worlds look great
>check out a stream of S+S out of curiosity
>streamer is fighting the Man Tree boss
>Literally just jump, hit, jump for 5 minutes or so because he does almost no damage to it
>mfw
Was this a bad boss, a bad streamer, both, or is the game just shit
>>331731217
Tree of man was one of my favorites. I did decent magic damage to his head. More of a platforming/multi task check boss.
>>331731217
Which streamet? I was watching Jerma play it, he was using a hammer and kept dyimg, switchef to a dagger and then beats ut over the course of like 5 mimutes ish. Granted, the dagger wasnt upgraded, but still looks like the hame packs polish
>>331731502
I don't remember the name, I only watched for about ten minutes or so and it was a few days ago.

Yeah, nice thread. But how about you give us a completely original idea for a game that no one else has ever thought of if you think it's that easy.
Salt and Sanctuary is a good idea, but it's kinda rough and doesn't really give any direction, which can really lead to super long boss fights if you are underleveled and geared for it.
>>331728661
don't be so s*lty
>>331730895
Japan has a mobile cat game, the West have been developing theirs for fucking ages.

Eh, no skin of my nose. Ripping Ripping off games is fine, as long as the end result doesn't suck. I'm glad Konami ripped off Animal Crossing that one time.
