I played Freelancer on a MP server when I was younger. Mostly vanilla but had a few new fighters and very powerful house cap ships. Consistently had 50 players, wars and battles all the time, ganks, shit talking, impossible odds, getting spawn camped, bad blood, treachery. The battles got intense.
Many years later I was watching some dumb space movie during a battle scene and found myself gripping the arms of my armchair, wide-eyed and heart pounding, flashing back to Freelancer days.
Good times 10/10 would freelance again

Even with a proper strategy, it's still really easy to lose this battle to dumb luck.
The end of the game's other character arc was no slouch either.
Theirs was one of those situations where you can save in the final dungeon, but couldn't leave, and the final dungeon was shit for leveling up in and didn't contain a way to get better gear.
