I don't want to start a shitflinging fight here, I'm just curious.
If 1993 games were considered "retro" in 2006 (proof, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgVTbH1HWcg), why is /vr/ so stubbornly opposed to 2003 games being considered "retro" in 2016?
Is it because the technological leap from 1993 to 2006 was much more tremendous than the one from 2006 to 2016? Have games stagnated?

Apparently they say it's because the 6th gen bring /v/ cancer ("that kid who wavedashed to school etc.") to an otherwise "clean" board. I can see what they mean.
This image illustrates why the rest of the 6th generation should not and should never be considered retro on /vr/. The Dreamcast is pushing it as it is.
Allowing the 6th gen will allow people to talk about shit like Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 as if it's a retro game.
it'd be kind of interesting to have discussions available for PS2/Xbox/GC era games, but the board is probably better off without the shitposting.
furthermore if games that new were allowed, 95% of the threads would probably be about them

The whole "PS2 wasn't discontinued until 2012!!1111" argument is dumb to me. That's like saying the SNES isn't retro because Nintendo continued to sell and repair it until 2009.
Yes, the PS2 wasn't officially discontinued until then, but it basically died around 2007, and became a secondhand option for games after.
retro = at least 20 years or 3 generations old. right now N64/Ps1 is retro.. ps2/cube/Xbox isnt

dreamcast is considered retro and /vr/ doesn't care if you post some of this stuff or gba etc so long as you aren't a fag about it and it doesn't flood.
It's based on gens and not years. when PSV is out ps2 will be retro. dreamcast is retro because it's sort of liminal between 5th and 6th gen.

Games from 2001-2005 were still fantastic. It was 2006-2007 with the Wii, the iPhone, Big bang theory, social media, etc. where they truly went downhill
