A big part of this game is the character interactions. Harvest Moon pisses me off because the main character never fucking says anything. At least in Rune Factory we can actually see some dialogue go back and forth between two characters.
The farming is fun, albeit a bit shallow. The dungeon mechanics are neat but the combat is really fucking barebones, and you're a slave to your RP gauge for the majority of the time you'll be playing.
No matter how good these games are, there's always some mechanic that bogs down the experience. In Frontier (which was god-tier) you had to deal with Runeys, which was tedious as hell. In 4 (imo the best in the series) you had to deal with some really fucking annoying RNG late in the game. Oceans is probably the worst in the series so you can skip that if you want, butit has the BEST waifus in the series

Now that balance, you can help fudge it
There are earth, water, air and whatever it was the last runey type, and every runey is like an spirit floating in the air. One type of runey consumes other type of runey, and is consumed by another different type. Sometimes the balance would go outta the roof and one type of runeys feast on other runeys, almost genociding them and increasing their own numbers, which fucks further its own balance, so you gotta keep an eye on them almost every single day so balance doesnt go to shit and fucks all over your crops.
And if that wasnt enough, each zone is an specific type, and requires a diferent balance of runeys to be effective.
But if that wasnt enough waste of time on a valid laborable day, runeys may spread or not to other zones, so if you have two adjacent balanced zones, some runeys might jump out to the next zone, fucking the balance from its original zone, and the one they go to as well.
Also, by the time you get the tool necessary to manage runeys, you will have spent a good amount of months, or years if you only cared about crops, so the balance was already fucked
