1. download this http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_offline.jsp
2. install it into the starsector folder
3. remove the jre folder from the starsector folder
4. rename the new installed java folder to jre
5. open vmparams in notepad
6. edit -Xms and -Xmx to -Xms4096m -Xmx4096m (or however much memory you want to allocate to it)

The only ships I ever fly are range-buffed beam laser ships. Ships with discrete projectiles are just so hard to hit with.

I found that putting economical beam weapons on Falcon/Eagle/Kestrel on autofire helps a lot. Gravitons take out the shields, hellbore cannons wreck the armor. Especially on Kestrel that gets one large ballistic and an ammo feeder. Graviton beams and taclasers don't generate that much after all, even on Aurora which you can outfit with 10 forward firing beams... Best ship hands down.

I switched to Odysseus though. Lasers, everywhere.

There is some bare bones fleet command. It's not really an RTS, however. The AI in general is quite good at what it does if you give it the right tools however, so you don't usually feel dragged down by your AI underlings

get dagger wing or two they are nasty, also a cruiser not named falcon or venture. maybe a tempest with engine mods for a super quick attack frigate to chase down those shuttles. honestly though cruiser is probably the best bet i usually go 3 total frigates, destroyer, 3 total destroyers buy a cruiser. medusa has the firepower of a cruiser so you can probably go straight to capitol next. also get some officers for the love of god.

Well, I don't think the old ones were bad per say, but they completely clashed with the vanilla sprites. Too sharp, little lighting, too busy... It has bothered me for to long to ignore. I tried to keep some of the boxyness in the design, but used a more vanilla friendly spriting.

But in the end this is a game I can't win, and I know that some people will always be disappointed whatever I change. My hope is that it's mostly a matter of getting used to the new look, and once all the ships are done, especially the weaker ones like the Sthenos, the overall look feels better.

So I now have a Mayor custom-carrier-cruiser, a Mayor laserlance frigate, two other lesser frigates for fire support, eight ticks with mining blasters and mining lasers, and a single wing of mining pods. And for some completely insane reason I now want to buy the actual shooty-shooty Mayor cruiser, which I know I can't support, and I need more frigates...

So the actual question is, in Corvus mode, what market type is most likely to have good mining ships, like mining pod wings and shepherds?

Independent and Hegemony markets have a decent amount of shepherds, I've got quite a few from New Maxios when I mined in Magec. I can hardly find mining pod wings, so using Omnifactory would be a good idea.

I haven't had much experience with the Cabal, but in my current save their only known enemy is Knights Templar. They have no allies, and they seem to run around doing raids on no one.

Just got past the initial hurdle of adding more abilities into the game. Since the abilities bar is so bare and jarring, I wanted to add abilities that I want to have and use.

First is Wait. Cut your burn to 0% and increase CR Recovery rate by 50%. It's useful when you want to. . . wait. Perhaps maintenance per is a better choice for that. Hmm. . .

Running 60 ships here. I had to edit the limit for more ships.

Max out leadership skill, in SS+ it is even better with Logistical Conservation hullmod (LCH).

Disable Repair on on your ship. You either have the ship LCH on it all the time or put LCH on when you want to repair at port. Never repair in the field. Basically cut your recovery cost and supply use by like 90%. Bringing a Construction Rig also helps. Do not use Mobile Suppliers like the Castle or the Rook. They are horrible costly.

That was a bad time to show my fleet, I just took on a huge vengeful ASP fleet that threw dozens of fighters and frigates to waste my CR. I went to Freeport right after since I wasn't detected. Its a shame Acheron was so empty, the patrols were so small and kept running away.

Anyway I did surprisingly well, I took control of the Mimir so I can back-peddle away from charging Paladins. Cleric was alone in a corner trying to kill my phase ships, while my entire fleet picked everything off as it came in to reinforce. Now I can run home and refit everyone at the Omnifactory.

Well, in truth is they can be 30% more efficient in supply use. That isn't good enough if you want to run 60 ships like I do. I did run a Cathedral before with 35 ships. It is completely do able. Don't let shekels counting get in the way of fun.

So I've been playing around doing some early sprite work/blocking for some Legend of Galactic Heroes ships.

Plan on making some Directed Energy Weapon front facing glass cannon ships with weak flanks.

The issue I'm having is translating the very vertically interesting ship designs from the anime into a top down view.

Do I add more bits and pieces, or stick to the original design/style?

I find micro missiles to be pretty useful. Not so much for damage, but they keep AI shields up, since they'll always activate shields against missile threats. Helps to overload them. I also like spewing hundreds of reloading missiles during fights. Helps to keep PD busy too so other missiles and fighter wings can do work.
That said, damage and tracking leave a lot to be desired.
And I'm not tryin' to start any shit-flinging, but built in weapons shouldn't be changeable IMO. Gives ships uniqueness. Would be nice if there were different variants you could buy.

You could read up on the forums since there are many long threads about them and I recall reading Alex said he is going to rework them, just like he reworked phase ships.

The consensus is that fighters acting exactly like other ships except smaller isn't the way to go to make them interesting. To make them capable you have to beef up their stats to unrealistic proportions which is how Diable accomplishes in making them viable.

That a good start, but there are a few details that you should add on:
1. Most of the imperial ships have those sensor domes on the sides or top. Adding them would help add more detail.
2. In terms of color vatiety, adding different crests or highlights to denote different ship 'classes' would deffinately help things

The fuck? Have you actually try fighting Templar with a Diable Avionics fleet? It doesn't fucking work without you suffering massive casualties. Templars are effectively immune to fighters due to their Carnawen burst killing every Wanzer within the blast radius.

Even if you double the effective health and armor, TK STILL one hit kill their Wanzers with a Carnawen burst. I know because I upgraded all my Wanzers with Extra System mod. DA capitals are only evenly effective against TK if you fight them one on one. Missile spam is also completely shut down by Carnawen Burst and Carnwen multi-beam. Wanzers are relegated to distracting them when facing TK with DA.

The only capital weapons I found from DA that is useful in fighting templars is the Urlan Siege cannon and Gust's Thermal Cannon. The rest, there are better alternatives from vanilla or other mods.

If anything, DA missiles are too weak. The best missile spammers are Blackrock Drive Yard's Dart Launcher and Fury Torpedo.

That means you ran out of memory. I used to have the same problem until I increase java ram to 6 gig from 4 gig. Alternatively, you can lower you max battle size in ingame settings if you can't increase java ram access. Their OP Carnawen burst is usually the culprit for crashing my game.

Banish Torpedo sucks. Their arming time is too long and their range is too short. Often the target just backs away and the pod just self detonates. Or they rush you and the Banish pods just crash harmlessly into their shields.

Blizzaia with Banish are completely ineffectively. I would suggest either shorten their arming time or extend their effective range. There are also no 2 ammo Banish torpedo for small missile slots.

Change "maxShipsInFleet" in \mods\Starsector Plus\data\config\settings.json using a text editor like notepad with right click>Open>Select Program From List.

If you are not using mods, it is in starsector-core\data\config\settings.json.

Vanilla is 25 max, SS+ is 35 max.

I got a pair one was a Undine and another was a Salamander.

The Undine was a straight up fuck you, it could phase skip at like 70% max flux, pop off a dual Antimatter blaster salvo and then phase skip away, and drain out excess Flux in like sub 5 seconds.
