So I emulated VI on the SNES but it's literally the earliest version of it so it's called Final Fantasy III.

I got tactics advance on the wii u VC and im not really enjoying it. Is it the same throughout the entire game? (grab missions, do them, put down landmark, repeat) I think my main issue is that it's too slow paced and when rng goes against you you have to wait even more for your guys turn.

Tactics and Tactics Advance differ in terms of story and tone, but if you're not enjoying the battle system then the games are probably not for you. I find the customization of the jobs/abilities to be the most fun aspect, which is why I also loved V.

how do you unlock different classes? I looked at the classes that an armor piece could use and saw at least 50+ but I can only be a thief, black mage, soldier, white mage, and monk? do they passively unlock as you progress through the game?

FFT doesn't let you escape from random battles, save during battles and the MP system is worse than TA

Certain classes are tied to certain races (for example, only Bangaa can be Templars). Unlocking classes depends on what abilities you've learned, and if you've played Final Fantasy IX then the system of learning abilities should be familiar: equip item, battle with it to earn points, earn enough points to "master" that ability to the point where you can use it even without that item equipped. Usually if you have two active (as opposed to passive) abilities from one job mastered, it unlocks a related job. So for example mastering more thief skills unlocks the Ninja class.
