After which installment did you lose faith in the series?
13 was the only truly irredeemably bad one/s of the main series.
X turned me off with its ultra-dumb main character but it was at least like a normal RPG. I didn't finish it but I put several hours in. XII got me off the series with how absolutely boring it was.

As different as 9/10/12/13 all were, I thought each had its own redeeming quality. 13-2 was awful though. But I suspect 15 will be at the very least fun to play
Never. I enjoyed XIII and XIV a lot.
One small detail though, FF is not among my favorite series so I don't have any sort of emotional connection with those.

XIII. Before that I felt like the series was still redeemable. I felt there was a balance of good and bad aspects in all the main entries, including the black sheep (XI) which I thought was a legitimately well-made MMO.

9 wasnt different from the previous games, it was more of a throwback then any other thing, it could be considered more of a final fantasy than 7 and 8 at that.
After 10 Square started to go wild and just forgot about what made their games good and went crazy with new (most of them retarded) ideas.
After 9 FF just changed.
XIV 1.0. Before that you could at least praise the FF games for being technically impressive, and it felt like there was some kind of standard. XIV 1.0 was one of the worst games I ever played, and I'm not even trying to exaggerate here. I can't remember a lot of times I had as unpleasant of an experience playing a game as that one (And I didn't even pay for it, I got a code for free). I was honestly amazed they thought it was acceptable to put a game like that out, it was clearly not even half finished.
I've heard that XIV 1.0 got better several patches into it, but I don't really accept that as an excuse. They had like a decade of MMO experience from XI going into that game and they had the same people working on it.
ARR was "better", but at the cost of being completely derivative. It feels like the way business was conducted by SE changed a lot as a result of that. I'm actually curious to see what their first post-XIV main entry FF will be like.

X is by far my favorite though. I want to replay it but I have too many others to play.

13 was just plain terrible. It took like 3 years to come out and who knows how much longer it was in development for. Any game that isn't an MMO where the best thing people can say about it is "it gets better after the first few hours" is not a game that's worth your time, and actually playing FF13 for more than a few hours was enough to prove that to me.
I've never really "lost faith" in the Final Fantasy series, but it went from being this unstoppable juggernaut in the SNES days to being a series where generally you get about as many bad games as good ones, not including the MMOs and spinoffs (the MMOs are good but they're really like a side series).

I have really high hopes for FF15 but at the same time I recognize that there's a lot that can go wrong with it. In terms of gameplay it's the most different game in the series since 12, and it's been in development for a decade. Long dev cycles don't always translate into good games, so it could go either way. I am optimistic about 15 but I no longer expect greatness from a game just for being Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy 8 is probably the worst game I have ever played and I played bubsy 3d. I hate every fucking thing about it.
IX is the last time I really had a lot of fun. The ones after that were a string of disappointments, with XIII making me completely lose all hope.

I-III were okay, but overall made history and are games that are hard to ignore. IV was amazing but too easy. V was amazing. VI is best FF, that's a fact. Practically flawless. VII was great, though not as good as others say it is. VIII is really flawed but I liked it. IX is amazing and underrated as hell. X is pretty good, story could have been better but everything else wraps up nicely. X-2 didn't need to exist. XI is god tier. XII nailed the coffin. So disappointing with all the potential it had. Yet to play IZJS. XIII trilogy only made it worse. Then XIV ARR became yet another god tier. Hopefully XV is great but after XIII...

X was a sign of bad times, but with XII having Matsuno at the helm there was still hope at that point; unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectaction, and XIII basically made me see FF as dead. XV looks to be more of the same shit.
XIV is unexpectedly good despite being an MMO. I feel if they got some of the people from that team to make a proper single player game, we could actually have a good FF again, at least story/setting/music wise.
