It all depends on the lighting and what you are using the room for, if there is only artificial lighting and it's just a game room, darker subdued (but still energetic) colors would work well. If you have natural light you need to do something that works well with that and doesn't clash so something closer to white, beige, cream, maybe something a bit orange-y depending on the angle of the window into the room compared to the sun.
Though if that's too hard you could always go with white. Can't go wrong with white.

It's where it should be for proper hearing of 5.1 digital audio (and dynamic ranges) from consoles and my PC, the front and rear speakers are the same distance away from the couch and each other, and as it's a 42" 720p plasma it's in the sweet spot in terms of distance and size. TV is at neck level to give the theater feel instead of near the ground which is a mistake many people make. This will change if I go to a 60" 1080p display, but I don't want to downgrade to shit TN panel tech, and I missed my chance to get the best 1080p plasma since plasma is a tech no longer being made.

Cable hell is just that, but I need it because most of my shit is interconnected (not in ways to cause feedback though). Example, all the systems are connected to the sound system for the TV, PC is connected to the TV as well as both sound systems so I can watch w/e on both, even via optical as there's an optical cable connected to the back of the PC for anime/movies and I just connect it to the receiver then simply move the video to that TV since all 3 displays are connected to the TV.
