Reapers are ailment masters and punishers
Dragoons are Hoplites and protectors
Hound are typical back ranged offense
Warlocks are the elemental casters
Necromancers are LITERALLY magic based wildlings
Shamans are sovereigns and bards
Herbalists are medics
And the four swords class is the same as shogun and ronin and Bushi as the shit for defense heavy offense Melee class.
If they had new class roles like farmer or Yggdroid I'd agree, but it's the same classes as always.

I agree. The game has VERY little story in ET OD 1 and 2, and I still feel like it has some of the best.
There's like, 3 or 4 callbacks to what the fuck is even going on, MAX, but it's done at the pace of exploration, not at the pace of story. It was perfectly done.
Untold sort of fucked with the pacing. In the first game you barely even knew what was going on when you beat the pre-postgame final boss, but in Untold you're aware of what the post-game final boss is halfway in and exactly what the fuck is going on before stratum 2. Meh. I haven't played Untold 2, but I want to.

If there's one thing that's missing from Etrian Odyssey, it's a random mode.
Doesn't even need to be tied to the main game. Just make a subsection that randomly generations, with random monsters, loot, bosses, and scale it to your level, or higher if you're awesome.

You're never forced to have a healer.
Even in Etrian Odyssey 1 there were a myriad of viable group combinations that didnt have a medic. Just required decent management of TP versus HP mitigation, maybe a medica or two, and bam, you have 5 DPS completely carving through the game.
Not to mention Trabodours did Medic's job better and provided buffs. Trabodours fell off around stratum 6 though, and doing Primeval without a medic is ~literally~ impossible, but that was just bad game design.
Every game past Etrian Odyssey 1, including Untold 1, is more than possible to be done without healers, and in fact in my opinion, the Princess in 3 was a better healer than the fucking healer class, and also did buffs. Like a trabadour, except in heavy armor and could wear a shield.

Each of the non-Earthrun (which going by how brownies is translated, will probably end up something like Earthling) races has two classes, and each of the classes is repped by a boy and a girl of that race.
Lunaria have their male rep as warlock and female rep as Necromancer.
Therians do Male Hound and female whatever the fuck the other class name is spelled as
