Famitsu reviews are like the lowest of the low these days. That said, I still might have to pick that game up whenever it comes out here.

Famitsu scores have been shady for as long as I can remember. Even back in the EGM days, they were generous with scores on really bad Japanese games.

Seems good. They give 34 to everything decent unless the company has paid up well in which case it will break the 35 and onwards.

About the game being worth a 40/40? Yes.
Don't get me wrong in my opinion it's a good game, but it is not worth a perfect score, giving it one feels really off.

Which are both a bit too high for what the games actually are, for these games I personally just feel like the scores are oddly inflated.

I'd just say avoid the original on Super Famicom and play the PSP remake instead.
Tia's weapons work better on the SNES version but overall it's a piss poor representation of what combat in Star Ocean games should feel like whereas the PSP remake brings it up to code.
Famitsu doesn't mean anything really, but I still havefaiththat it'll be better than the trainwreck that was 4.
