Right now i just have to somehow fuse all the fucking polygons to create separate parts. the problem is since it's essentially a zero thickness model with how it got exported, solidworks doesnt recognize it as a solid but instead thousands of 0-thickness surfaces (that arent even fused)

most i worked with in my files was 4 million and thats due to its geometry. had to do a lot of cutbacks too.

when you export in 3dmax you should ensure you're shooting for high polygon count. the exporting process is important as if you dont export with high precision you'll end up with a very low poly model.
exporting via solidowks sets it to the highest reasonable poly count for models. im not sure what your software does but make sure its set for more accuracy and not cutting back on the geometry.

no. not fixed. an STL is essentially unusable unless you plan to print X part.
Solidworks will not be able to handle this file in any way. even exporting to dxf wont be able to do much.
to explain an stl its basically a file that contains points and information connecting those points. its a mesh, but also not a mesh since its a solid. but you cant alter it as it breaks the file (trust me i tried).
can you maybe export to an OBJ format maybe?
also when i was talking about poly count - this is what i was referring to.
pic related. some parts of a thing i made a while back compared to yours. if managed to be made in solidworks the count is fucktardedly high.

Don't worry about it. Your software can open up Solidworks files without issue but Solidworks can't do yours. Its related to how they work.

I manage to export a DWG. Its not the original model head as it has a different geometry. It's seems not to be solid and is missing a few polygons. Also it takes forever to solidworks to load it.
