What do you expect of the next Animal Crossing?

Are there not enough cats to do that? Or do you mean shops/museum/cafe NPCs would all be cats as well?
I think it'd be cool if we got some human villagers, its always felt weird that you're the only one, and yet no one reacts like you're some rare breed or something.

animal with many branching diologues and maybe an ai that reflects interest and disinterest a lot better than in previous animal crossing

Something on par or better with the GC game's ammount of text would be nice by itself.

Seriously this, the dialogue options in WW were neutered so badly from the original game (which I understand because it was on the fucking DS.)

What's really unforgivable is that when the series went back to consoles with CF, it retained all the "cut corners" of the handheld version, like the very limited dialogue choices, less varied dialogue in general, and the "rolling barrel" camera style (matter of preference here, I suppose, but I really preferred the separated acres of the original.)

NL was a little better, but still ultimately felt shallow to me compared to the original, despite the huge amount of added features. It felt like there was less to do each day, no activites to do at night, and worst of all, even less purpose to actually interacting with your villagers. Beetle farming also really ruined the challenge/longevity of the game, and even if you didn't do it yourself, it unbalanced the online trading economy pretty heavily.

I really hope the next AC is a console title that reinvents the series, for better or worse. NL was probably as good as the series is going to get with its current direction. I'd like to see them really try shaking things up or reimagine what the series could be.

I don't know what to expect, but unfortunately I'm leaning more on the pessimistic side of things.
What I want is for the series to take a turn more similar to harvest moon, have an improved dialogue and personality system, more reasons to interact with your villagers, activities that aren't chores and so on.
A small thing I'd like to see implemented is cooking. It would be pretty cute to gift food for your villagers and eat with them or hell, even just make something for yourself. I just like cooking.

Also dating.

The GC animal crossing was actually expanded on from the original japanese n64 version. the localization team Treehouse felt the game didn't have enough dialogue to go with so they simply added a lot more. it was so good, Nintendo re-released their version in japan.

that's the thing, i don't think we'll ever see that ammount of dialogue in a game like that again. the only other work around may be if they included free DLC that was simply more stuff the animals can talk about.

This shit right here. All I really wanted to do in New Leaf was get a nice little town set up the way I wanted, and villagers plopping their houses down wherever they damn well pleased made it hell. Having to soft reset for hours every time a villager left and a new one moved in just to keep my paths clear was what made me drop the game.

It's not like dialogue is hard/time consuming to write. All you need is a cute little bit of text and some conditions for when it should be appear. Once the dialogue system is in place a team of writers should be able to easily come up with thousands of little conversations for characters to pick from.

You're probably right though. I guess I didn't realize how special a case the GC version was.

Barring that, however, I don't understand why villagers can't have set likes/dislikes at least. When you'd talk to a villager in NL, half the time they'd spout some line about liking a certain food or activity, but it was just completely randomized, and that information would never come up again.

It'd be really cool to get to know a villager's specific tastes over time, in terms of items you could actually obtain/gift them in-game, or even just have them ask if you remember their favorite/least favorite food or whatever. Like how the coffee house worked, but applied to the game as a whole.

It'd give you something to actually do with all the random garbage furniture you get, rather than selling it all to the shop for what is essentially pennies. If you picked up a piece of furniture and remembered that a villager likes that kind of stuff, you could give it to them for a potentially greater reward than you'd get for selling it.

>you'll never get to hug grizzly

other than that, more bonding with the villagers would be nice. Like have a bonfire where all the villagers hang out for the night and talking about stuff that went on in their lives. make them feel more like their own characters.

Animal Amie.
>>
Not a whole lot, I don't even know if I'd get one if they released it, partially because it'd probably be on the NX or something but mostly because I'm attached to my town in New Leaf and I'd hate to neglect it.

Shallow as it is, I still like all them little animal people.
