Do you think it will go F2P someday?
It maybe a rotten corpse, but normies kiss its feet.
Yes, and the day it does, none of usacktual gaymerswill care.
Maybe 2+ years from now unless Legion is a huge success
Well, Activision-Blizzard is milking it for all its worth, F2P is the logical next step after running down costs (the least amount of content stretched over the longest time ever) and microtransactions.
Since they are still managing to have microtransactions while having to buy the game AND pay sub fee, there is no urgent need to increase the volume of microtransaction by opening the F2P population floodgates, but it's going to happen at some point, be it 2 or 10 years from now on as I don't think neo-Blizzard has the integrity to let WoW go. If they had, they already would have.

Only when it drops below a million subscribers.
Even then, there'll be "premium account" bullshit.
>>331532134
yes it will. it will be the same as the old republic except being a success for 10 years instead of being garbage on release
>>331532134
No. It won't. If it was going to, it would have already happened. If a game doesn't go F2P in 12 years it's never going to.
Games go F2P because the subscription numbers no longer allow for it to be profitable to be a P2P game. That's not the case for WoW, and I don't see it being the case for a very long time... if ever.
It's partially free to play. If you're on US it's fairly easy to pay your sub with just gold. Expansions are still going to dick you.
>>331535838
This. Even with the players going down WoW's still very profitable.
>>331536196
No.
They'd need their subscriber base to drop at least bellow two millions for that to happen.
>>331532134
If Blizzard ever makes a new MMO it may go F2P.
See you in 7 years

Mostly these.
Even at less than 1 million subs, WoW is still massively profitable. They hired a bunch of new blood to work on WoD (they say it's why it took them so long to put it out, seems reasonable, but it's also a half assed excuse), they now have the man power to hold it on life support for another 10 years.
WoW as a game doesn't take that much maintenance. People buy the expac, play it for 3 to 4 months, drop it until more content arrives. Some will stay subbed for longer because they're completionists or whatever other bullshit excuse they have to still log on.
That's the WoW business model now. Short term surges in popularity based on hype and new content, followed by a drought while their low maintenance, lowly numbered team, gets to have the time to pump out newer content for the next surge.
WoW won't go F2P, neither will it die completely, not while it's still profitable. And it still is, and likely will be for a long time.
No, WoW is profitable with the retail sales alone, Mike Morhaime hoped it could get 100k subs at best & that would rake in the jew golds
Plus WoW is pretty low budget, i guarantee Blizzard spends fuck all on it

Even though the sub number are a fraction of what they once we're they're still far above what new MMORPGs can even hope for. It won't happen any time soon.

Took them so long to make the shortest expansion in WoW history.
ITT: armchair economists and business analysts
Probably not. There's well over a million or so addicts that will keep it going, since they'll refuse to stop playing their characters. If the game can hold 1.5 to 2m subs, it won't go f2p.
I think the real question is if Blizzard will make another MMO.

It's rough going from a messageboard to an imageboard. You are so subconsciously used to extending your post-count that you never realize that you do not have to respond to every single response.
